The Parenting Patch: Where Parents Grow is a website about parenting including a blog, news, reviews, recipes, and information including baby sign language and a week by week pregnancy calendar that was founded in September 2011 by Heather and James, a husband and wife team who were soon-to-be first-time parents. The mission of The Parenting Patch is to share the parenting experience with preconception, conception, pregnancy, birth, and parenting with other parents, bloggers, and other interested bystanders. Hot topics are widely discussed.
Heather Johnson is a librarian, an amateur photographer, a wife, and a first time mother who is supported by her wonderful husband. She earned a BA in English studies with a minor in creative writing from Illinois State University in May 2007, an MS in library and information science from the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign in May 2009, and an MS in English studies with an emphasis in linguistics at Illinois State University in December 2011.
James Johnson is a writer, an editor, a husband, and a first time father who is supported by his wonderful wife. He earned a BS in communications with a minor in pre-law from Illinois State University in May 2004.
Heather and James are the proud parents of Poppy, their daughter who was born in December 2011. Poppy enjoys books, balls, rubber ducks, play food, goldfish crackers, and her pets. Heather and James are also pet parents to Espen, a Shih Tzu; Princess, a stray-turned-house cat; and Kenobi, a Schnauzer Shih Tzu mix.
The Parenting Patch is pro-breastfeeding, pro-vaccination, pro-homebirth, pro-co-sleeping/pro-bed-sharing, anti-ultrasound, and anti-circumcision. All other viewpoints (expect pro-circumcision) are welcomed. The Parenting Patch encourages respectable debate and discussion.
