ALL4BABY Magnetic Locking System Review

ALL4BABY Magnetic Locking System Review

I am a little bit obsessed with baby-proofing my home. With two young and curious children at home, I have recently undergone the task of making sure as many of my cabinets and drawers as possible lock. My kids get into anything and everything. To keep my babies safe from medication, cleaning supplies, and sharp utensils, I have placed child safety locks throughout my kitchen and bathroom. Thus, when recently offered the chance to review a magnetic locking system from ALL4BABY in exchange for my honest opinion, I eagerly accepted the opportunity to make my home a little safer.

Price

The ALL4BABY magnetic locking system currently retails for $43.99 with a sale price of $28.60 on Amazon. The kit comes with eight locks and two keys. At the current sale price, each lock costs $3.58. Most of my other child safety locks cost about a dollar less each. However, this kit comes with additional adhesive straps, so I can reuse each lock. I therefore rate the price positively. Installation

Thank goodness the magnetic locking system from ALL4BABY comes with extra adhesive. I have not wanted to drill into my cabinets and drawers, so I have sometimes had trouble finding locks that worked for me. I therefore appreciate the strong 3M adhesive use to install these locks around my house. However, installation is a bit tricky. First, unlike most products, installation instructions do not come in the packaging. Instead I had to go online to the company website to watch two videos illustrating the proper installation. While I would not mind checking out the videos for extra help, I would prefer if the box also came with a written instruction manual. Not everyone has access to the internet, and some consumers prefer written directions.

In addition to the lack of installation manual in the packaging, I also had a bit of difficulty installing the locks on my cabinets. I originally wanted to place three locks on the cabinets under the utility sink in my basement laundry room. My kids are not allowed downstairs, but I still want to lock up any potentially harmful cleaning supplies as an added precaution. However, I quickly realized that these magnetic locks do not work on the metal cabinets because the metal interferes with the magnets. If you were hoping to add locks to a metal cabinet, this magnetic locking system is not for you.

I also had quite a bit of trouble installing the locks on my wooden cabinets in my kitchen and dining room. I had to remove both parts of the lock multiple times while figuring out the best placement for a firm attachment. The installation videos offered me some measurements, but I found that I had to line up the two parts of the lock within my non-standard cabinets instead of using a ruler. When I tried to measure, the parts did not line up. I ruined almost half of the adhesive strips before finally getting the hang of installation. I would like ALL4BABY to include some sort of placement guide to make installation easier from the get-go.

Performance

While I had quite a bit of trouble installing the magnetic locking system from ALL4BABY on my cabinets, I am happy with the results. First, the 3M adhesive on these locks is super strong, which I have come to expect from 3M products. When I messed up with the installation the first few times, I had to use a screwdriver to pry the adhesive stickers off my cabinets. Removing the double-sided stickers was also a bit tricky because of the high-quality adhesive. Luckily the package came with some extra adhesive, so I was able to fix my installation errors. The additional adhesive also makes these locks reusable.

Once I got the locks installed, I was extremely pleased with the strength of the locking mechanism. I used two of the locks on the bottom of the cabinet over my desk in my dining room in which I keep medication, vitamins, zip ties, batteries, insect repellent, and more. Opening the ALL4BABY locks is also quite easy for adults but almost impossible for young children. To open the locks, you must use one of the two keys that comes with the kit. I placed one magnetic key on the top of my refrigerator, far out of reach of my children. You then have to use the key on the outside of the cabinet to disengage the locking mechanism. Once you get the hang of the system, opening the lock is quite easy. Kids, however, would have to have the key to have any hopes of ever getting into the cabinet.

I finally like that the magnetic locking system from ALL4BABY comes with two styles of locks to fit almost any cabinet. For my medicine cabinet, I used a bottom installation with the longer catch. On the cabinet in which I store my pots and pans, I used a top installation with the wider catch. The two different catches allow you to use these locks on almost any cabinet or drawer. The only cabinets that I could not use this locking system on were the metal cabinets in my basement. The old steel interfered with the magnet too much. Otherwise, I agree that the ALL4BABY magnetic locking system will work on almost any sized and shaped cabinet or drawer.

Final Verdict

If you are shopping for child safety locks that remain hidden and require no drilling, I recommend the magnetic locking system from ALL4BABY. The kit comes with eight versatile locks that fit almost any cabinet or drawer and two keys. The internal installation design keeps the locks invisible, maintain the esthetic of your home. The stronger key makes opening the locks easier. You can additionally activate and inactivate the locking mechanism as necessary. The 3M adhesive on these locks is super strong, which I have come to expect from 3M products. My only complaint is that installation is a bit tricky. Thank goodness the kit comes with extra replacement adhesive because I ruined almost half of the strips while learning to install the locks. The locks also did not work on my metal utility sink cabinets. However, the locks are very strong but easy to adults to open. I therefore rate the ALL4BABY magnetic locking system very highly overall.
