Valentine’s Day is just two short weeks away. Although my daughter is now a preschooler, she and I still love reading board books together. My infant son also enjoys hearing books read aloud. Here are some of our favorite board books for Valentine’s Day for toddlers (and preschoolers).
Happy Valentine’s Day, Mouse! (2009)
Happy Valentine’s Day, Mouse! (2009) written by Laura Numeroff with illustrations by Felicia Bond is a holiday book that features the recognizable characters from the If You Give… series. Young readers will enjoy following Mouse as he makes valentines for all his friends.
A Valentine Bouquet (2000)
A Valentine Bouquet (2000) written by Eleanor Hudson and illustrated by Laura Bryant tells the story of a little girl who wants to give her grandfather a bouquet of paper roses on Valentine’s Day. Readers aged 2 and older will delight in the textured glitter on each page and the sweet Valentine’s story.
Baby Snoopy’s Valentine (2003)
Baby Snoopy’s Valentine (2003) from Charles M. Schultz is an adorable Snoopy-shaped board book that features the baby versions of the beloved characters Snoopy and Woodstock. Readers between the ages of 1 and 4 will enjoy turning the shaped pages of this book and helping Baby Snoopy search for Baby Woodstock.
Where Is Baby’s Valentine? (2007)
Where Is Baby’s Valentine? (2007) written and illustrated by Karen Katz is a sweet holiday book for children between the ages of 1 and 4 years old. Young readers will delight in helping Baby find her special valentine while discovering some other common sights of Valentine’s Day.
Elmo’s Valentine (1998)
Elmo’s Valentine (1998) illustrated by David Prebenna features the lovable characters of Sesame Street and stars Elmo who cannot decide whom should receive his beautiful valentine. Readers between the ages of 2 and 3 will love reading this interactive Valentine’s Day book, which includes a cutout valentine that moves from page to page.
Llama Llama I Love You (2014)
Llama Llama I Love You (2014) by Anna Dewdney introduces Llama Llama to babies and toddlers with short and simple rhyming text. Young readers will delight in reading about little llama as he shows his friends and family how much he loves them with heart-shaped cards and lots of hugs. What could be sweeter?
