ecoAble Pocket Diaper with Bamboo Insert Review

I recently reviewed the wet/dry cloth diaper pail bag with handles and cloth diaper pail liner from ecoAble and loved both. Thus, when the company then offered me the chance to review a pocket diaper with bamboo insert, I eagerly accepted the opportunity.

Price

The pocket diaper with bamboo insert from ecoAble currently retails for $15.99, which I consider moderately priced for a pocket diaper. Both more and less expensive pocket diapers exist on the market, and I find the ecoAble brand priced in the middle.

Prints

I received an ecoAble pocket diaper with bamboo insert in the Monsters print, which is a blue diaper with a monster print, green hip tabs, and green snaps. (My daughter really loves seeing the Monster diaper on her little brother!) The brand currently offers almost a dozen prints but no solid colors. For fans of fun prints, ecoAble provides a number of options for boys, girls, or both. While I would also like to see some solids colors, I rate the available print options from ecoAble very highly in terms of variety and color combinations.

Design

Recommended for babies between 8 and 35 pounds, the pocket diaper with bamboo insert from ecoAble consists of a waterproof exterior lined with very soft charcoal bamboo fleece interior. The charcoal bamboo material wicks moisture away to keep sensitive skin dry and comfortable. The waterproof shells includes a pocket opening on the back in which to stuff inserts. The ecoAble pocket diaper comes with one bamboo insert. The shells also feature double leg gussets to help contain wetness and messes.

As a one-size diaper, the torso of the ecoAble pocket diaper with bamboo insert features three rows of three snaps that allow the diaper to adjust between small, medium, and large rise settings. The waist features two rows of slanted snaps, ten on top and eight on bottom. The wings feature double snaps, hip snaps, and a crossover snap to ensure the perfect fit on the tiniest babies through larger preschoolers and to prevent wing droop.

Laundering

Because of the natural fibers, the pocket diaper with bamboo insert from ecoAble requires multiples washings to reach maximum absorbency. However, the company states that the diaper is ready to use after just one wash. As I have mentioned time and time again, I am super lazy in the laundry room, so any new diaper that I add to my stash must fit into my current wash routine. Between washes, I store my dirty ecoAble pocket diaper with the bamboo insert removed in a pail liner in my diaper pail. On laundry day, I wash the diaper on warm with detergent and OxiClean followed by two cold rinses. I then allow the ecoAble pocket diaper to air dry on a drying rack, usually in front of a fan. The insert air dries within twelve hours and machine dries in one hour. I have noticed that the insert has become more absorbent after subsequent washings. Overall, the ecoAble pocket diaper fit easily into my cloth diaper laundry routine, so I rate the diaper extremely highly in terms of laundering.

Performance

As a one-size diaper, the ecoAble pocket diaper fits babies between 8 and 35 pounds. At seven months and 17 pounds, my infant son wears the diaper on the medium rise setting with one waist snap exposed. At 30 pounds, my preschooler daughter wears the diapers on the large rise setting with three sets of waist snaps exposed. Both my kiddos have plenty of room left to grow in the diaper. I thus rate the diaper very highly in terms of sizing.

I consider my son a fairly heavy wetter, and he typically needs a diaper change every two to four hours during the day. The ecoAble pocket diaper with bamboo insert lasts him for up to four hours during the day without any leaks. I can also use the diaper on him overnight by adding an extra overnight insert into the pocket. The charcoal bamboo material also seems to keep him dry, which I consider a huge plus because my son hates feeling wetness in his diaper area. I therefore rate this pocket diaper extremely highly in terms of providing protection against wetness.

The ecoAble pocket diaper with bamboo insert also works great at containing solid messes. My son just started solids after six months of exclusively breastfeeding. Because he eats only a few bites of food each day at the moment, he is at that point between liquid EBF and solid food poop. This diaper effectively contains all consistencies of poop, even the horrible mess with which my son christened the diaper. I especially like the double leg gussets, which, in my experience, help contain messes even better than single leg elastics. I thus rate this diaper extremely highly in terms of containing solid messes.

Final Verdict

If you are a fan of pocket diapers, I recommend the pocket diaper with bamboo insert from ecoAble. I consider the pocket diaper, which comes with a bamboo insert, reasonably priced at only $15.99 each. The diaper features a very soft charcoal bamboo fleece interior that wicks moisture away from sensitive skin, which is a plus for my son who hates the feeling of a wet diaper. Recommended for babies between 8 and 35 pounds, the diaper fits both my 17 pound infant and 30 pound preschooler with plenty of room to grow on both. I especially like the double leg gussets on the diaper, which help contain moisture and messes better. If you are shopping for a new pocket diaper, I definitely suggest the ecoAble pocket diaper with bamboo insert.
