Because I am not a big fan of fish, I have taken omega 3 supplements in the past. Prior to getting pregnant with my daughter last spring, I started a vitamin regiment that included omega 3 with EPA and DHA in particular to help regulate my cycles. EPA (eicosapentaenoic acid) and DHA (docosahexaenoic acid) are omega 3 fatty acids that are crucial for fetal development. Omega 3 fatty acids are also beneficial in terms of the female reproductive cycle as well as for regulating mood and preventing or alleviating depression in particular.
I definitely think that taking an omega 3 supplement as well as a few other vitamins helped regulate my cycles. Two months before conceiving, my cycles were all over the place, ranging from twenty-nine days to forty-five days. I was also not ovulating each cycle. After starting a supplement regiment, I felt better, and more importantly, my cycles regulated. During my pregnancy, taking my vitamins each and every day kind of fell to the wayside. I had such persistent nausea that eating, let alone taking my pills, became a struggle. However, now that my daughter is here and I am breastfeeding, I have again become much better at taking my vitamins and supplements each day.
One supplement that I continue to take is an omega 3 supplement. I eat some fish and have started drinking hemp milk, both of which provide omega 3 fatty acids, but I still need some sort of supplement to get all the omega 3 that my body needs. Thus, when Everest Nutrition approached me about reviewing its krill oil dietary supplement, I immediately and excitedly said yes. Everest Nutrition is a leading vitamin and nutraceutical manufacturer established in 2004 that strives to improve the quality of life through its line of vitamins and proprietary blends of all-natural products designed for healthier living.
I received two bottles of Everest Nutrition Krill Oil supplement to review. Each bottle contains sixty Caplique® capsules. The recommended serving size is two capsules daily, so each bottle lasts about a month. My initial impression of the supplement is that the rich red color of the capsules is quite pretty. Because brightly and richly colored foods tend to contain the most nutrients, the color of deep red color of the krill oil inside the capsules makes me think that this supplement contains some good stuff.
According to the Everest Nutrition website, its krill oil supplement contains the richest supply of omega 3 fatty acids, especially EPA and DHA, as well as astaxanthin, which is a very powerful antioxidant that research suggests is highly effective in combating free radicals that cause cell damage. To preserve the nutrients in its krill oil, Everest Nutrition immediately processes its krill into krill meal on board the ship from which it is caught in the most pristine waters around Antarctica. Time can degrade the nutrients in any food source, so I appreciate that Everest Nutrition claims to take measures to prevent degradation.
I am very concerned about my health and about the healthy of my family. As such, I am always on the lookout for foods and supplements that will keep us all as healthy as possible. According to Everest Nutrition, its krill oil supplement offers the following awesome health benefits:
- Improve your cardiovascular health
- Regulate blood pressure
- Balance your cholesterol levels
- Maintain healthy blood sugar levels
- Strengthen joints and bones
- Relieve pain
- Improve your memory
- Give your skin that healthy youthful glow
I personally suffer from a few health conditions that can be benefited by taking Everest Nutrition Krill Oil. I have Ehlers-Danlos Syndrome, which affects my joints, so the joint strengthening properties of this krill oil supplement are right up my alley. I also suffer from hypoglycemia, so taking a supplement that will help maintain my blood sugar levels is also a plus for me. Furthermore, as a new mommy, I have terrible mommy brain. My husband is already super forgetful, so right now we are a mess in terms of memory. I am really hoping that taking Everest Nutrition Krill Oil will help with my forgetfulness and lack of attention. Now if only I remember to take my pills…
Because I am not a health professional nor do I go to the doctor very frequently, I cannot make any claims about how well Everest Nutrition Krill Oil is working for me in terms of my health. However, I will say that I am not feeling any worse since beginning my krill oil supplement regimen. And, in my inexpert opinion, my breast milk seems to be a little creamier since I started taking Everest Nutrition Krill Oil. Because omega 3 fatty acids pass into my breast milk and provide my daughter with the same health benefits, I am glad that I started taking a krill oil supplement now, not just for my health but for her health as well. Hopefully Everest Nutrition Krill Oil really is improving the quality of my breast milk!
As far as taste goes, I swallow my pills pretty fast. When I take my Everest Nutrition Krill Oil at my usual speed, I do not taste the pill at all. When I did hold the capsule on my tongue for about ten seconds, all that I tasted was the gelatin from the capsule. As soon as I swallowed, the taste dissipated. I could not taste the krill oil at all. Therefore, Everest Nutrition Krill Oil is a recommended omega 3 supplement for individuals who want the health benefits of krill oil without a fishy aftertaste.
As I already stated, I have taken omega 3 supplements in the past. However, I have never taken a krill oil supplement. My favorite feature of Everest Nutrition Krill Oil is that, unlike with fish oil supplements, krill oil is linked together in phospholipid form, which is the same structure as the fat cells in the human body, which makes absorbing the omega 3 fatty acids in the krill oil faster and more effective. I am all for taking the most effective supplement available, and, among the sources of omega 3, krill oil seems to be the best available.
Final Verdict: I am very impressed with Everest Nutrition Krill Oil. So long as the health claims are true, I am doing myself and my daughter a lot of good by taking a daily krill oil supplement. Furthermore, I love that, unlike some fish oil supplements, this krill oil supplement does not leave a fishy aftertaste in my mouth. I highly recommend Everest Nutrition Krill Oil to anyone who is looking for a krill oil supplement.
