Exploring Trucks with 'I Love Construction Vehicles' and 'I Love Rescue Vehicles'

My children love trucks. While I try not to gender my kiddos in terms of their interests, my toddler son in particular is all boy in his love of large vehicles. He loves firetrucks, ambulances, tractors, diggers, and all other construction and rescue vehicles. Thus, when recently offered the chance to review I Love Construction Vehicles and I Love Rescue Vehicles by Chris Oxlade from Silver Dolphin Books in exchange for my honest opinion, I eagerly accepted the opportunity.

Price and Design

Published by Silver Dolphin Books, the I Love Construction Vehicles and I Love Rescue Vehicles sets by Chris Oxlade currently cost $19.95 each with the current sale price of $16.88 on Amazon (Construction and Rescue). Each set comes with a 32-page book, model vehicle, poster, reusable stickers, and cardboard model pieces. The kits come packaged in handy cardboard boxes that double as play boards. I plan to store both my sets in the original packaging to keep all the pieces organized and together. Both sets are recommended for kids ages 5 and older.

I Love Construction Vehicles

Although I find road construction super annoying, my kids love watching the construction vehicles work as we drive by. I Love Construction Vehicles allows children to read, play, and explore the world of work vehicles including diggers, dumpers, bulldozers, and enormous tunneling machines. The full-color photographs throughout the 32-page book present construction vehicles in full detail. The 52 reusable vehicle stickers and poster of a construction site complete the set. After reading the book, younger learners can finally build a construction site using the shaped box, 47 cardstock model pieces, and toy dump truck. My kids will love this. I can’t help but think that my son will probably want to become a construction worker when he’s older. He’s so fascinated by the whole process. If he does, then I’m glad he’s followed his dreams. Of course, as with most jobs, there are health and safety risks. One of my friends is married to a construction worker and he often says that those sites can be dangerous. Apparently, construction sites can go through numerous problems, like expired construction permits and scaffolding accidents, so it’s important that all workers are constantly aware of what’s going on around them.

As soon as I opened the box of I Love Construction Vehicles, my toddler son immediately grabbed the plastic dump truck and ran off. (I do wish that the truck were metal, but the plastic has held up so far.) He also loves flipping through the pages of the colorful book and looking at all the photos of the construction vehicles. My kindergartener daughter, who has been reading on her own for about six months, can read quite a bit of the book by herself already. Both my kiddos love hearing me read the information aloud while looking at the illustrations. Both my kids enjoy the poster and are especially fond of the stickers. Once my kids get a little older, I will get out the cardstock model pieces. Right now my 1-year-old and 4-year-old are a bit too rough for the cardboard at the moment, so I definitely agree with the age 5 and older recommendation. I am excited to use I Love Construction Vehicles in future homeschool lessons with my kids.

I Love Rescue Vehicles

The sound of sirens send my kids running to my front window to look for flashing lights zooming by. I Love Rescue Vehicles allows children to read, play, and explore the world of modern rescue vehicles including firetrucks, ambulances, helicopters, and rescue boats. The full-color photographs throughout the 32-page book present might emergency machines in full detail. The 52 reusable vehicle stickers and poster of a firetruck complete the set. After reading the book, younger learners can finally creative a fire station using the shaped box, 26 cardstock model pieces, and toy firetruck.

My son adores the lights and sirens of firetrucks, so he immediately ran off with the plastic toy firetruck as soon as I opened the I Love Rescue Vehicles set. (Again I wish that the truck were metal instead of plastic because I fear that the plastic will not last that long.) Both my kids enjoy flipping through the pages of the book and hearing me read the information aloud. My kindergartener daughter can read most of the text by herself with only a little bit of help with the bigger and unfamiliar words. Both my kids enjoy looking at the firetruck poster, and both adore the stickers. As soon as my kids get a little older and gentler, I will get out the cardstock model pieces. At the moment my 1-year-old and 4-year-old are a bit too rough for the cardboard, so I definitely agree with the age 5 and older recommendation. I am excited to use I Love Rescue Vehicles in future homeschool lessons with my kids.

Final Verdict

As a homeschooling mom, I am always searching for new educational sets with which to teach my children. Both my kindergartener daughter and toddler son are fans of large vehicles like firetrucks, ambulances, tractors, and diggers. I Love Construction Vehicles and I Love Rescue Vehicles by Chris Oxlade from Silver Dolphin Books each come with a 32-page book, model vehicle, poster, reusable stickers, and cardboard model pieces. The kits come packaged in handy cardboard boxes that double as play boards. My kids love reading the books and playing with the toy trucks. As soon as my kids are older and gentler, I will bring out the cardstock model pieces so my little learners and I can build a construction site and a fire station. My only complaint is that the toy trucks consist of plastic rather than die cast metal. Overall, however, I am super excited to use both I Love Construction Vehicles and I Love Rescue Vehicles in future homeschool lessons with my children.
