More Favorite ‘Elmer’ Books

After reading about half of the Elmer books from my library, my toddler daughter still wanted more. She had fallen in love with the patchwork elephant. Never one to deny books from a child, I headed to my local library and requested all the other Elmer books in the David McKee series that I could find. Here are some more of our favorite Elmer books.

Elmer on Stilts (1993)

The hunters are coming to the jungle in Elmer on Stilts (1993), so Elmer must think of a way to protect the elephants. After running into giraffe, Elmer decides that the elephants should hide on stilts. Will the hunters find the elephants, or will the elephants play the biggest trick of all?

Elmer Plays Hide-and-Seek (1998)

Younger readers will learn about colors while helping Elmer search for bird in Elmer Plays Hide-and-Seek (1998), a lift-the-flap book.

Elmer and Grandpa Eldo (2001)

When Elmer visits his golden Grandpa Eldo one day in Elmer and Grandpa Eldo (2001), the younger elephant finds himself having fun reminding his grandfather about all the fun things the two used to do together. Will Elmer remember everything? And Grandpa Eldo might be old, but do elephants ever forget?

Elmer and Butterfly (2002)

As Elmer is strolling through the jungle one day in Elmer and Butterfly (2002), he hears a small voice calling for help. When he rescued Butterfly from a fall tree, Butterfly promises to help Elmer should he ever find himself in need of assistance. Chuckling at the idea of a butterfly helping an elephant, Elmer soon finds himself in a tricky situation. Will Butterfly help Elmer with his problem?

Elmer and Snake (2004)

The elephants want to play a trick on Elmer in Elmer and Snake (2004). After consulting with Snake, the elephants begin the trick on Elmer. But Snake lets Elmer in on the joke. Will the other elephants fool Elmer, or will Elmer play the bigger trick?

Elmer and the Rainbow (2007)

After a big storm, a rainbow without any colors appears in the sky in Elmer and the Rainbow (2007). The other elephants worry that Elmer will lose his colors but decide a colorless Elmer is better than a colorless rainbow. Will Elmer find the end of the rainbow? Will he lose his colors?
