‘Moonlight: The Halloween Cat’ Book Review

'Moonlight: The Halloween Cat' Book Review

My toddler daughter loves her kitty, so I knew that she would love reading Moonlight: The Halloween Cat by Cynthia Rylant with illustrations by Melissa Sweet. Recommended for children from preschool through third grade, this Halloween book is also fun for younger toddlers because of the combination of simple but interesting text and colorful illustrations.

Moonlight is a black cat whose favorite night of all is Halloween. While following the adventures of Moonlight the cat, Moonlight: The Halloween Cat teaches quite a bit of Halloween holiday vocabulary to young readers. My daughter especially liked the pumpkins and the owls.

The illustrations in Moonlight: The Halloween Cat really bring the story to life. With brilliant colors, the pictures in this book are fun and never scary, despite the Halloween theme. My daughter particularly likes pointing out the cat on each page as well as the pumpkins throughout the story. I love the bright colors and the illustrations style.

Final Verdict: Moonlight: The Halloween Cat by Cynthia Rylant is a fun Halloween story to read with emerging and early readers. Although recommended for slightly older kids, my toddler daughter still enjoyed the story about the Halloween cat. If you are looking for a non-scary book to read with your child this Halloween season, I highly recommend Moonlight: The Halloween Cat.
