Have you heard of Peter Rabbit Organics? If not, then the time has come that you did!
Getting Green with Baby Review
As I am sure you have gathered, to say I prefer organic food for my daughter would be an understatement, which is the reason that I love Peter Rabbit so much. Peter Rabbit Organics makes USDA-certified organic fruit and veggie puree blends in convenient, BPA-free pouches. Nothing, and I mean nothing, artificial is ever added to the purees. What you see on the image on front of the pouch is exactly what you get: 100% fruits and veggies blended together for flavors that babies and toddlers will love!
Peter Rabbit Organics was kind enough to send some pouches for Myka and me at Getting Green with Baby to try out. Aside from my liking the pouches because the food are organic, I also like that they really are in combinations that children will love. I am not a big veggie fan, although I am starting to come around in recent years. I have fed Myka baby food that I have made and then given her something similar from Peter Rabbit, and she likes the Peter Rabbit blends way better. I will admit that I thought the pouches were pretty tasty too! As long as she enjoys them, I am happy!
The consistency and texture of Peter Rabbit Organics purees are excellent as well. In my opinion, they are the perfect consistency for new eaters, even if they are good as healthy snacks for older children as well. Please keep in mind they are fruit and veggie blends, so, if your child is literally just trying a new food for the first time, be sure to give it to them by itself. (As a side note from Heather at The Parenting Patch, I did not follow the one-food-at-a-time rule even though I have food allergies. My daughter was fine.) Once you know your child is not allergic to any of the different fruits and veggies that make up a blend, then you can feel free to give them puree mixes. Peter Rabbit purees are not too thick like some can be, so your child is less likely to gag or even choke.
Another favorite feature of mine is the convenience of the pouches. There is no need to refrigerate the baby food before use. (Although you will need to put open pouches in the fridge for food safety reasons and then consume the entire pouch within 48 hours.) I also love that I can just squeeze out however much I need for Myka, which is usually quite a bit because she seriously loves the Peter Rabbit Organics pouches, instead of having to scoop the puree out of another container or even thaw ice cubes of baby food out. (Another note from Heather at The Parenting Patch: Thawing out homemade baby food is just as easy!) Peter Rabbit Organics pouches are also great snacks for toddlers and older children. Eating the purees straight from the pouches is easy and fun. Plus, you can take the pouches anywhere, which is easy and healthier than many snacks you might find on the go.
I would say that I was excited to see that we had received two flavors that Myka loves, but I do not think that she has tried one that she has not liked yet. She loves anything with fruit or peas, so the Pear and Pea blend is one of her favorites! Most of the time, I cannot spoon the food in fast enough! Much to my surprise, she also gobbled up the Carrot, Squash, and Apple puree. While the apples do give the combination that sweetness she seems to enjoy, she is not a huge fan of orange veggies so far. Needless to say, because of her dislike, I was delighted to see that she actually liked this blend. (Unfortunately, I did not get a picture of her eating the Carrot, Squash, and Apple because the babysitter fed her the entire pouch while I was at work!) The Apple and Grape blend was a big hit too. Myka actually ate the whole pouch in one sitting, which was both exciting and frightening for me. She liked the combination so much that she got mad at me a few times when I was not feeding her fast enough.
