Birds Preschool Activities

Objective: To learn about birds

Message: Birds are animals with feathers. Birds lay eggs.

  • Science page 6 (Optional: Color the pictures after completing the activity.)

Craft/Activity 1: Paper Plate Bird Craft (http://www.juxtapost.com/site/permlink/1b375420-846a-11e1-906a-ef56c15460b1/post/blue_bird_craft/)

Materials

  • Paper plate
  • Colored paper
  • Yarn
  • Scissors
  • Glue
  • Google eyes

Directions

  1. Cut some colored paper into small squares.
  2. Cut some orange paper into a triangle.
  3. Cut some yarn into 6-inch pieces.
  4. Knot the yarn together at one end.
  5. Fold the paper plate in half.
  6. Glue the orange triangle onto one side of the fold.
  7. Glue the knotted yarn into the other side of the fold.
  8. Cut some colored paper into long strips.
  9. Glue the paper plate together.
  10. Glue the colored squares onto both sides of the folder paper plate.
  11. Cut a small slit into the center of the paper plate near the fold.
  12. Fold another sheet of colored paper into an accordion.
  13. Slip the folder paper through the slit and secure.
  14. Glue two google eyes onto both sides of the folder plate near the orange triangle.
  15. Display the paper plate bird craft.

Craft/Activity 2: Paper Plate Nest

Materials

  • Paper plate
  • Colored paper
  • Brown paper bag
  • Scissors
  • Glue
  • Brown paint

Directions

  1. Paint the paper plate brown.
  2. Cut the paper plate in half.
  3. Glue the paper plate halves together with the bottoms facing out. Spread glue around the outside edge only leaving the center cut open.
  4. Cut ovals from the colored paper.
  5. Shred the brown paper back.
  6. Insert the paper shreds and colored “egg” ovals into the paper plate nest.
