Shine for Dogs LED Dog Leash Review

Shine for Dogs LED Dog Leash Review

I recently reviewed a red Shine for Dogs LED dog collar that I received for my dog Kenobi. The lighted collar makes me feel more secure taking my two dogs out in the dark to potty. Although I have quite a bit of outdoor lighting near the doors to my house, the lighted collar helps me keep an even better eye on my beloved pets. The collar is incredibly easy to use and charge, and the fiber optic LEDs feature three light modes. Because I love the collar so much, when recently offered the chance to review a Shine for Dogs LED dog leash in exchange for my honest opinion, I eagerly accepted the opportunity.

Price

The Shine for Dogs LED dog leash currently retails for $23.95 on Amazon. Non-LED dog leashes typically cost less but do not offer a light-up feature. For an LED leash, I would definitely pay the current retail value, which is a small price to pay to help keep my dogs safer at night. I therefore rate the price of the Shine for Dogs LED dog leash extremely highly.

Design

Available in five colors (red, pink, black/green, lime, blue), the updated design of the Shine for Dogs LED dog leash features four ultra-bright high-output LED lights. The rechargeable design means that you do not need to replace the batteries, and each full charge provides up to ten hours of light. Simply plug the included USB cable into a USB power adapter or computer and the leash, and then allow the battery to recharge for 30 minutes to an hour. The durable and weather resistant leash uses fiber optics, not wire LED, to create an insulated system. The lights feature three modes: continue on, rapid flashing, and steady flashing. The leash is highly visible from every angle to help keep your dog safe and in sight. The Shine for Dogs LED dog leash measures four feet in length.

Performance

I received a red Shine for Dogs LED dog leash that matches my red Shine for Dogs LED dog collar. I use both the collar and leash on my whippet-schnauzer mix named Kenobi. He is a scrawny dog who weighs about ten pounds and who is incredibly active and ornery. He has no sense of danger and once ran off and got lost in town as a puppy. My other dog, Espen, is more timid and fearful. I thus use my Shine for Dogs leash and collar on Kenobi. I always walk my dogs together, and the one collar and leash are bright enough to light up both dogs at once.

Shine for Dogs LED Dog Leash with Charging Cord Shine for Dogs LED Dog Leash

Charging the battery of my Shine for Dogs LED dog leash is super simple. Start by plugging the USB cord that comes with the leash into the leash handle loop. Then plug the other end of the cord into a USB charger or computer. I personally use my computer because I do not currently own a separate USB power adapter. If you use a computer, you do need to ensure that the computer is on and not in sleep mode in order for the battery to charge. However, I use my computer so often that finding a time to charge the collar is pretty easy. Charging takes 30 minutes to an hour, which is typical for most devices now-a-days. The lights on the leash dimly while charging, so you know when the battery is fully charged because the light turns off.

Just like with the matching collar, the fiber optic LED lights on the Shine for Dogs leash feature three modes: continue on, rapid flashing, and steady flashing. Switching between the three modes is super simple. The on/off button is located next to the handle loop, hidden under the webbed fabric of the leash. Simply press down on the button to turn the lights on and switch between the modes. I typically use the leash on the continuous on mode, but I appreciate that this lighted leash offers more than one option. I usually stick with the continuous on mode because Espen is sometimes afraid of flashing lights, which remind him of lightning, and I do not want him to try to run away from Kenobi.

I really like that the Shine for Dogs LED dog leash uses fiber optics, not wire LED, to create an insulated system. When my collar first arrived a few weeks back, I was a little worried about damaging the lights as I resized the band for my thin-necked dog. That both the collar and leash use fiber optics instead of wires creates more durable products that can withstand the test of time. I was happy to see that the leash uses the same fiber optic system as the collar. The material is also weather resistant and splash proof. However, never submerge the leash in water as the light system is not water proof. You can use a damp cloth to wipe the material clean.

Final Verdict

My new red Shine for Dogs LED dog leash is the perfect match for my red Shine for Dogs LED dog collar. Although I have quite a bit of outdoor lighting near the doors of my house, the lighted leash helps me keep an even better eye on my beloved pets while outside in the evening and at night. The durable and weather resistant leash uses fiber optics, not wire LED, to create an insulated system. The lights feature three modes — continue on, rapid flashing, and steady flashing — which are easy to turn on and off. The leash is visible from every angle to help keep your dog safe and in sight. Charging the rechargeable battery is super simple, requiring only the included USB cable and a USB power adapter or computer. If you are a dog owner, I highly recommend the Shine for Dogs LED dog leash!
