Of all the different types of cloth diapers available to me, I prefer covers far and wide. When Zookaboo recently approached me about reviewing a diaper cover, I eagerly accepted the opportunity. After providing some design ideas, I received an adorable elephant print cover with white trim and white snaps. My daughter loves elephants, so the print is absolutely perfect for her.
The outside of the cover is a cotton fabric. The inner layer is a soft waterproof PUL. White fold over elastic trim keeps the cover securely in place. The torso features four rows of three snaps that allow sizing of the diaper between small, medium, large, and extra large. The waist features two rows of eight/nine angled snaps plus a set of cross over snaps for a smaller fit. The waist also includes one hip snap on each side for a perfect fit. Looking at the workmanship on the handmade diaper, I find even stitching and cannot find any apparent flaws. I rate my Zookaboo diaper cover extremely highly in terms of quality.
The one-size diaper cover that I received fits babies between 10 and 35 pounds. At around 26 pounds, my older toddler wears the diaper on the large torso setting. At the waist, there is one snap setting open in the middle. As my daughter grows, I know that the Zookaboo diaper cover will continue to fit her. In fact, as a slightly larger cover, the one-size diaper cover from Zookaboo is perfect for older or larger toddlers who are not yet potty trained. Zookaboo also offers handmade diapers for smaller infants.
When my daughter first saw her new elephant diaper, she literally shrieked in delight. She adores elephants, so her elephants Zookaboo cover is one of her new favorites. Zookaboo offers a number of other gorgeous prints and colors. I personally love the Hippos and Little Ladies ladybug ruffle covers.
Caring for my Zookaboo diaper cover is as easy as caring for my other cloth diapers. When the cover is dirty, I toss the diaper in my wet bag with my other dirties until laundry day. I then wash all my cloth laundry on a heavy wash with warm water and a cold rinse. I use two to four tablespoons of Rockin’ Green detergent depending on the size of the load. I then do another cold rinse. I always hang my Zookaboo cover to dry. I occasionally toss the almost dry cover in the dryer on the lowest heat setting for no more than ten minutes to zap any remaining moisture.
Although I generally prefer double leg gussets, I love the fit of my Zookaboo cover. The fold over elastic around the edge makes for a perfect fit every time. I use my Best Bottom inserts inside the cover, and Zookaboo recommends any prefold or fitted cloth diaper under the cover. The cover holds in wetness and messes superbly. I have yet to have a problem with leaks! In terms of function, I also rate the handmade Zookaboo cover extremely highly.
Most custom made diaper covers from Zookaboo range in price between $15 and $17. Smaller diapers cost less, and fancier diapers cost more. However, at $15 to $17, Zookaboo is comparable in price to my other favorite brands of covers. Plus each cover is custom made by hand!
Final Verdict: I love my new diaper cover from Zookaboo. The elephant print is absolutely adorable and has become a favorite print in my stash. The workmanship on the cover is incredibly high, and I cannot find any obvious flaws in the stitching. The cover also works exceptionally well to contain wetness and messes. I have yet to have a leak with my Zookaboo cover. At between $15 and $17 per custom made cover, Zookaboo offers an excellent cloth diaper cover at an incredibly affordable price. If you love diaper covers as much as me, I highly recommend Zookaboo!
