AMOSTING Ceramic Knife Set Review

AMOSTING Ceramic Knife Set Review

I chop a lot of fresh fruits and vegetables while preparing meals for my family. I also cut cheeses and some meats. Even though I own two sets of stainless steel knives, I always seem to run out between washes. Additionally, I find myself needing to sharpen my knives all too often. Thus when recently offered the chance to review an AMOSTING nine-piece ceramic knife set in exchange for my honest opinion, I eagerly accepted the opportunity.

Price

The AMOSTING nine-piece ceramic knife set currently retails for $29.99 with a sale price of $18.99 on Amazon. The set comes with four knives, four sheaths, and a peeler. Other ceramic knife sets with the same collection of knives retail for approximately the same price. I thus rate the price, both retail and sale, of the AMOSTING ceramic knives positively.

Design

Made with  lightweight ceramic, the nine-piece knife set from AMOSTING comes with a six-inch chef knife, five-inch utility knife, four-inch fruit knife, three-inch paring knife, peeler, four sheath protectors for the knife, and a magnetic gift box. Unlike metal, ceramic is about one-half lighter and withstands corrosion from various acidic and alkali foods. With a hardness second only to diamonds, ceramic is also ten times more wear-resistant than steel blades and will not rust or oxidize.

AMOSTING offers some tips for using, cleaning, and caring for the ceramic knives in the nine-piece set:

  1. Do not distort the knives while cutting.
  2. Do not use the knives to cut frozen or partially frozen food, meat with bones, crabs, or other hard foods.
  3. Do not use the knives to hack, chop sharply, knock, pry, throw or strike or as a lever.
  4. Use a wooden or plastic cutting board, not a stone chopping block.
  5. Do not wash the knives in the dishwasher. Use water and soap and allow the knives to air dry.
  6. Do not use steel wool or other metal scrubbers to clean the knives to prevent scratching the blades.
  7. Do not drop the knives to prevent breakage.
  8. Do not sharpen the knives.
  9. Keep the knives away from children and away from high heat and fire.

Performance

I have never used a ceramic knife before, so I was super excited to try my new AMOSTING ceramic knives. I cut a lot of fresh fruits and vegetables, especially during the summer. My stainless steel knives get dull so quickly, and ceramic both is shaper and remains sharper for longer. After giving my new set a quick pre-wash with dish soap and warm water, I started cutting, chopping, and slicing my favorite foods.

As promised, the ceramic knives from AMOSTING are super sharp. Even fresh from the package or immediately after sharpening, my stainless steel knives are never as sharp. The first knife and food that I tested was the four-inch fruit knife on a tomato. My family loves fresh tomatoes. Unfortunately, unless I use a sharp serrated knife, I often end up smashing tomatoes while trying to cut the veggie into slices. With the AMOSTING ceramic knife, however, I can easily slice tomatoes into perfect slices without smashing it into a pulp. I was immediately sold on my new ceramic knives as soon as I sliced that first tomato with ease!

I really love the four sizes of ceramic knives included in the AMOSTING set: six-inch chef knife, five-inch utility knife, four-inch fruit knife, three-inch paring knife. I personally prefer using smaller knives for most of the foods that I cut up in my kitchen. I am a small woman with small hands, so I can wield a smaller knife more easily. While I own some larger chopping knives, I almost always reach for my smaller knives first. All four knives are the perfect smaller sizes for most of the cutting that I do while preparing meals for my family.

Although sharper than metal, ceramic is more brittle and prone to stains. I personally do not care if my knives get stained because sometimes stains happen from use. I do like that the AMOSTING ceramic knife set comes in a dark black color. Black is less likely to show stains, so, if you are worried about stains on your knives, the black is a feature that you will want to consider. I am also rather clumsy, so I do worry about chipping or breaking my new knives. If I were to drop one of these knives in my kitchen, the blades are sure to shatter on my ceramic tile floor. However, that ceramic is more brittle than metal is not a flaw, simply a fact. To preserve my knives for longer, I immediately wash the blades after use and put the knives back in their protective sheaths and box. With care, these knives can last a long time.

Washing the ceramic knives from AMOSTING is incredibly easy. While I usually hate hand washing dishes, I am happy to clean these dishes in my sink with soap and warm water. As I already mentioned, I immediately wash and dry these knives after use. I use my regular dish detergent and gently wipe down the blades. If you let food dry on the blades, you can use a soft sponge to gently scrub off the residue. I also use a towel to dry the blades after washing. I then put the knives back in their sheaths and in their gift box. I store the box in a high cabinet inaccessible to my young children, but the protective sheaths means that you can store your ceramic knives in a drawer without worrying that someone will cut their hands on the sharp blades.

The only negative that I can mention about the AMOSTING nine-piece ceramic knife set is that I am not impressed with the peeler. The plastic is thin and a bit lightweight. I prefer to use my metal vegetable peelers, which are sturdier and work on even the toughest vegetable skins. However, the knives are so spectacularly sharp that I do not even care about the mediocre vegetable peeler.

Final Verdict

I am very impressed with the AMOSTING nine-piece ceramic knife set, which comes with four knives, four sheaths, and a peeler. Made with lightweight ceramic, the set includes a six-inch chef knife, five-inch utility knife, four-inch fruit knife, three-inch paring knife, peeler, four sheath protectors for the knife, and a magnetic gift box. Unlike metal blades, ceramic is ten times more wear-resistant and will not rust or oxidize. The blades are super sharper, making cutting even tomatoes incredibly easy. I really love the smaller sizes of knives. All four knives are the perfect smaller sizes for most of the cutting and slicing that I do while preparing meals for my family. Ceramic is more brittle, so you do need to be more careful to prevent chipping and shattering. The protective sheaths, which allow you to store the knives in a drawer without worrying about cutting yourself, are another nice feature. If you are shopping for ceramic knives, I highly recommend the AMOSTING nine-piece ceramic knife set.
