    Bumkins One-Size Diaper Cover Review

For my daughter, I exclusively use Best Bottom inserts inside various cloth diaper covers. Last spring I purchased a Bumkins one-size diaper cover to review. I had previously review a Bumkins all-in-one and a Bumkins snap-in-one, so I was curious to compare a Bumpkins cover with my beloved Best Bottoms.

Priced at $10.95 each, the Bumkins one-size diaper cover is an economical options for parents who wish to cloth diaper. The cover fits over prefolds, fitted diapers, and contour diapers as well as other inserts such as the Stay Dry insert from Best Bottom. The large Best Bottom insert fits inside the cover, but just barely.

Bumkins estimates that the cover fits babies between 7 and 32 pounds, making the Bumkins one-size diaper cover slightly smaller than most other covers. I agree because, even on the largest settings, the cover already fits my two-year-old toddler snuggly with not much extra room. However, for parents with smaller newborns, the Bumkins one-size diaper cover should work from birth. And this cover will work on most kids through early toddlerhood.

Also related to the size of the diaper is that I cannot use the Bumkins one-size diaper cover on my daughter overnight. When I first purchased my Bumkins cover, my daughter weighed about 23 pounds. However, because I used three inserts overnight, I found that the Bumkins one-size diaper cover was too small for overnight use. I could probably use the cover at night on a smaller baby. However, in terms of size, the Bumkins diaper cover is most comparable to the Rumparooz one-size diaper cover.

My biggest complaint about all Bumkins diapers is the number of snaps on the waist. Instead of two or four snaps, the Bumkins one-size diaper cover features two rows of three hip snaps for a total of six snaps. Although so many snaps does create a secure fit, I find myself snapping only four of the snaps because six is just too many to snap on a wiggly toddler. The torso features three rows of four snaps, which is more than average but is less of a problem because, once I adjust the torso, I can leave the snaps in place for quite a while.

Two features that I do love about the Bumkins one-size diaper cover are the double leg gussets and the front and back inside flaps. I have found that double leg gussets help hold in messes more efficiently than single leg elastics. I also like the internal flaps, which help hold my inserts inside the cover better. I do not have to worry about the insert sneaking out the front or back of the diaper, causing wicking and leaks.

The Bumkins one-size diaper cover is made from a soft, waterproof PUL fabric with TPU that is stain and odor resistant. Bumkins recommends a hot wash and air drying. I wash all my diapers in warm water followed by a cold rinse. A warm wash works just fine for the a soft, waterproof PUL fabric with TPU that is stain and odor resistant. I do hang my covers to dry to prevent damage to the fabric and elastic, but the Bumkins one-size diaper cover dries very quickly.

As a cover, I like that I can use my Bumkins one-size diaper cover multiple times before tossing the cover in my diaper laundry. I simply switch out the insert during diaper changes. I can use the cover three to four times before changing the entire diaper. Combined with the low price and the multiple uses, the diaper cover from Bumkins is an incredibly economical cloth diapering solution.

Final Verdict: I am mostly pleased with my Bumkins one-size diaper cover. The biggest downside to the cover is the size, which runs a bit smaller than most other cloth diapers. However, for smaller babies, Bumkins is a great option, especially when considering the economical price of $10.95 per cover. I therefore recommend the Bumkins one-size diaper cover for younger babies and smaller toddlers.
