    Bumkins Snap-in-One Diaper Review

    Bumkins Finer Baby Products

Bumkins recently offered me a chance to the review the new Bumkins snap-in-one diaper in the new adorable Turtle print. Because I had been so pleased with the Bumkins all-in-one one-size diaper that I had bought for myself to try, I immediately jumped at the chance to review another Bumkins diaper.

    Bumkins Snap-in-One Diapers

The Bumkins snap-in-one diaper is a cross between the Bumkins all-in-one and a pocket diaper. I received one Bumkins snap-in-one diaper and one two-pack of cotton-bamboo-rayon blend snap-in inserts. Currently available in four cute prints and colors, my Bumkins snap-in-one diaper is the Turtle print, which is a green diaper with green, blue, and white turtles and white snaps. Because my daughter loves the color green and because she loves turtles, she absolutely loves the print of this diaper. I also think that the turtle print is absolutely adorable!

How does the Bumkins snap-in-one diaper differ from other cloth diapers? Similar to the Bumkins all-in-one, the Bumkins snap-in-one features a soft detachable minky insert that snaps into the inside of the diaper. The insert then folds out for easier washing and faster drying. Like a pocket diaper, however, the soaker insert of the Bumkins snap-in-one unsnaps from the inside of the pocket. In addition to the snap-in minky insert that comes with the Bumkins snap-in-one diaper, Bumkins also offers an optional two-pack of cotton-bamboo-rayon snap-in inserts. The inserts work with both the Bumkins snap-in-one and the Bumkins all-in-one.

I am not a huge fan of pocket diapers because I hate stuffing and unstuffing the inserts on laundry day. I like the Bumkins all-in-one because the inserts remains attached to the diaper during washing. I still have to stuff the insert back inside, but I do not have to hunt for the insert in my pile of clean diapers. The Bumkins snap-in-one diaper offers me the best of both the Bumkins all-in-one and a pocket diaper because I can choose which insert I want to use. If I want a minky insert, I can use the snap-in minky insert. If I want a cotton-bamboo-rayon insert, then I can use the snap-in cotton-bamboo-rayon insert. I can also use the Bumkins snap-in-one shell as a pocket diaper and stuff any number of insert combinations inside.

Another great feature of the Bumkins snap-in-one diaper is that the snap-in insert need not be stuffed inside the pocket. As I already said, I dislike pocket diaper because of the need to stuff the inserts in. Just snap the insert in but leave the insert unstuffed. I particularly like the super soft minky right up against my daughter’s sensitive skin. I also love the convenience of not needing to stuff the snap-in insert inside the pocket.

As a one-size diaper, the Bumkins snap-in-one features three rows of four torso snaps that allow the diaper to be sized from small to medium to large. At twenty-five pounds, my daughter still fits into the medium setting but the large setting fits her best. The smallest setting should fit a baby as little as seven pounds. The largest setting should fit a toddler up to thirty-two pounds. Because my daughter fits into the medium and large sizes at her current weight, I am confident that the Bumkins snap-in-one will last her through potty training.

How well does the Bumkins snap-in-one diaper work? The first time that I used my new Bumkins snap-in-one on my diaper, I used all three inserts stuffed into the pocket for overnight use. Because my daughter sleeps up to twelve hours without wanting a diaper change at night, I need a diaper that offers superior absorbency and leak protection. In the morning, I pleasantly discovered that the Bumkins snap-in-one diaper held in all the wetness throughout the night without any leaks or wicking. Any diaper that keeps my daughter try from bedtime through morning is a winner in my reference book on parenting.

During the day, the Bumkins snap-in-one diaper is also a great fit on my daughter. With just wet diapers, the Bumkins snap-in-one lasts between two and four hours. With her first pee of the day, my daughter sometimes soaks through even my beloved Best Bottoms. However, I did not have any problems with the Bumkins snap-in-one diaper leaking, even with her first wet diaper. The Bumkins snap-in-one also worked great to contain poopy messes, even the mess after a meal that included prunes. My daughter and I both rate the Bumkins snap-in-one diaper very highly in terms of efficiency and absorbency.

Update: At seven months and 17 pounds, my infant son wears the Bumkins snap-in-one diaper on the medium rise setting with no waist snaps exposed. At three and a half years old and 30 pounds, my preschooler daughter can wear the diaper on the large rise setting with three top waist snaps exposed. I now feel that this diaper runs low and works best on babies with shorter torsos.

Final Verdict: My daughter and I give the new Bumkins snap-in-one diaper four enthusiastic thumbs up. As a fan of simpler diapers that do not require stuffing, I love the way in which the insert of the Bumkins snap-in-one snaps onto the diaper. I also love that I can leave the super soft and super absorbent inserts laying inside the diaper instead of stuffed into the pocket. With a few extra inserts stuffed inside, the Bumkins snap-in-one diaper is also a great overnight diaper for a baby who sleeps up to twelve hours without a diaper change. If you are looking for an innovative all-in-two/all-in-one diaper, I highly recommend the brand new Bumkins snap-in-one diaper. You will not be disappointed!
