‘Creepy Carrots!’ Book Review

Cover of Creepy Carrots!Jasper Rabbit loves carrots. He especially loves the wild carrots that grow in Crackenhopper Field. Every day on his way to school in the morning and his way home at night, he stops by the field for a few carrots — until the carrots started following him. Jasper begins seeing creepy carrots everywhere: in the bathroom, in his bedroom, and in the shed. Although his parents did not believe him, Jasper saw the creepy carrots following him all over. By the end of the week, Jasper forms a plan to rid himself of the creepy carrots. Will the creepy carrots finally stop following him?

Recommend for children between 4 and 8 years old, Creepy Carrots! by Aaron Reynolds with illustrations by Peter Brown is a fun little scary story. My favorite part of the book, however, is the illustrations. Drawn mostly in shades of black and white with orange accents for the creepy carrots, the pictures are almost Twilight Zone-esque. The orange of the creepy carrots really stands out against the black and white of the rest of the book. My daughter enjoyed pointing out both the carrots and the bunny throughout the pages.

Final Verdict: Creepy Carrots! by Aaron Reynolds is a super fun book about fears — both real and imaginary. Although recommended for older readers, even my toddler enjoyed hearing this story read aloud to her. My daughter and I give Creepy Carrots! four enthusiastic thumbs up.
