Diaper Junction One-Size Diaper Cover Review

Of all the styles of cloth diapers, I preferred covers on my daughter. Even after she daytime potty trained, I still put her in a cloth diaper at night just in case. Thus, last November during the Black Friday sales, I purchased some limited edition holiday Diaper Junction one-size diaper covers to test and review on my infant son and preschooler daughter.

Price

I purchased four Diaper Junction one-size diaper covers at $12 for a set of two (or $6 each for a total of $24). The diaper cover generally retails for $7.95 each. At either price, I consider the Diaper Junction cover an extremely affordable, economical diaper option. For families on a tighter budget who prefer diaper covers, I overwhelmingly recommend the Diaper Junction brand.

Prints

I purchased my four Diaper Junction one-size diaper covers in limited edition holiday colors: Merry (green with red snaps), Bright (red with green snaps), Peace (blue with gray snaps), and Light (gray with blue snaps). Diaper Junction also offers the inexpensive cover in almost two dozen solids and prints. I therefore rate the diaper extremely highly in terms of variety. (Note: As of the publication of my review, Diaper Junction has discontinued the Diaper Junction brand, instead opting to combine the features, prints, prices of the Diaper Junction and Diaper Rite brands. Diaper Junction will stock only the new and improved Diaper Rite cover in the future.)

Design

The Diaper Junction one-size diaper cover consists of a waterproof TPU (thermoplastic polyurethane laminate) exterior. An additional layer of material lines the interior of the cover to reinforce the torso rise snaps. Front and back flaps on the inside of the cover hold inserts and prefolds in place, preventing leaks and wicking along the stomach and back. The back flap additionally contains elastic for even better fit and performance. The cover adjusts to fit most babies between 8 and 35 pounds.

I almost exclusively use snap closures on my diapers, so I appreciate that the Diaper Junction one-size diaper cover comes only in snaps. The torso features three rows of three snaps that allow the diaper to adjust between small, medium, and large rise settings. The waist features two rows of ten slanted snaps. The wings feature double snaps, hip snaps, and crossover snaps to ensure the perfect fit on the tiniest babies. I was able to put the diaper on my son at seven weeks old and on my daughter at three and a half years old because of the generous snap configuration.

Laundering

My current cloth diaper laundry routine consists of a warm wash with detergent and OxiClean followed by two cold rinses. I then allow covers to air dry on a drying rack, usually in front of a fan. I store dirty diapers in a pail liner in my diaper pail. Because I am lazy in the laundry room, any new diaper that I add to my stash must fit in with my current wash routine. The Diaper Junction one-size cover fits easily into my routine, so I rate the diaper extremely highly in terms of ease of washing and drying.

Performance

Diaper Junction recommends the Diaper Junction one-size diaper cover for babies between 8 and 35 pounds. Both my newborn son and preschooler daughter comfortably fit into the cover with plenty of room to grow. At seven weeks and 10 pounds, my scrawny son wore the cover on the small rise setting and smallest waist setting with the crossover snaps during the day. At night, he wore the cover on the medium rise setting. At three years and 29 pounds, my daughter wore the cover on the medium rise setting with two top and four bottom waist snaps exposed during the day. At night, she wore the cover on the large rise setting.

With a high quality diaper, I have to change my son every two to four hours. Depending on the insert configuration, the Diaper Junction one-size diaper cover typically fits him for approximately four hours. I usually use a Buttons Diapers or Best Bottoms Diapers insert inside the cover, but I have also used prefolds and flats during the day and fitteds at night. On both my kiddos, the cover fits well over a fitted diaper at night, meaning that the cover can last my children between nine and twelve hours overnight.

I am most impressed by the generous sizing of the Diaper Junction one-size diaper cover. I often put fitted diapers such as Wonderful Bambino and Mouse&Hatter Designs with covers on my kids at night. Unfortunately, I have had some trouble finding covers big enough to fit over a bulky fitted as my daughter grew into the largest sizes. I was therefore extremely excited to find that the Diaper Junction cover more than adequately fits over a larger fitted diaper for overnight use.

My only complaint about the Diaper Junction one-size diaper cover is the single leg elastics. I typically prefer double gussets on my covers to help contain moisture and messes. In general, I have not had any major problems with leaks as long as I change my son often enough during the day. However, I still worry about gapping around the legs with the single elastics. I was therefore appreciative to see double gussets on the improved Diaper Rite version of the Diaper Junction cover.

Final Verdict

Of all the covers in my stash, the Diaper Junction one-size diaper cover impresses me considerably. At $7.95 each, the brand offers an extremely economical option for cloth diapering families on a budget. Available in a variety of colors and prints, the diaper features high-quality snaps that allow for babies from infants to preschoolers to find a perfect fit. The covers also performs extremely well during the day and night. I especially like the generous sizing, which allows the cover to fit over the bulkiest of fitteds for overnight use. My only complaints are the single leg elastics and the discontinuation of the brand by Diaper Junction.

Although Diaper Junction no longer carries the Diaper Junction one-size diaper cover, you can now purchase the new and improved Diaper Rite One-Size Diaper Cover at Diaper Junction via my affiliate link.
