My daughter and I are huge fans of the Duck & Goose series by Tad Hills. The board book Duck & Goose, 1, 2, 3 is no exception. In fact, of all the books that my husband and I bought our daughter for Christmas and her birthday this past year, all of the Duck & Goose including Duck & Goose, 1, 2, 3 are in high rotation during reading time at our house.
Duck & Goose, 1, 2, 3 is a simple board book meant for toddlers and preschoolers. The book is a counting book that focuses on the numbers one through ten. On each page of the book, the beloved characters — Duck, Goose, Thistle, and Bluebird — count familiar objects from the Duck & Goose series. “1 goose, 2 ducks,” begins Duck & Goose, 1, 2, 3. This book is absolutely perfect for little readers who are starting to learn about numbers.
Like the other books in the series, the illustrations in Duck & Goose, 1, 2, 3 are absolutely darling. Even as an adult, I personally love looking at all the details on each page. As a parent, I appreciate that the pictures, although beautiful, are still simple and really focus on counting. For example, the page with “4 friends” prominently shows the four friends, which makes counting easier for little readers.
Final Verdict: Duck & Goose, 1, 2, 3 by Tad Hills is another win for the Duck & Goose series. The language is super simple and really focuses on numbers and counting. The illustrations, like the rest of the series, are absolutely darling. If you are looking for a counting book for your toddler or preschoolers, I highly recommend Duck & Goose, 1, 2, 3.
