ecoAble All-in-Two Cloth Diaper with Charcoal Bamboo Insert Review

ecoAble All-in-Two Cloth Diaper with Charcoal Bamboo Insert Review

Have you heard of ecoAble? I have previously reviewed the wet/dry cloth diaper pail bag with handles, cloth diaper pail liner, pocket diaper with bamboo insert, and bamboo all-in-one cloth diaper with pocket from the company. I continue to use all four in heavy rotation in my cloth diaper stash. Thus, when ecoAble recently offered me an all-in-two cloth diaper with charcoal bamboo insert to review, I again eagerly accepted the opportunity.

Price

The all-in-two cloth diaper with charcoal bamboo insert from ecoAble currently retails for $16.50, which I consider moderately priced compared to other all-in-twos of similar design. Many other all-in-twos that come with an insert cost roughly the same. I therefore rate the price of the ecoAble all-in-two cloth diaper with charcoal bamboo insert favorably.

Prints

I received an all-in-two cloth diaper with charcoal bamboo insert from ecoAble in the Spacechip print, which features blue rocket ships, yellow moons, and orange planets on a navy blue background, orange hip tabs, and bright blue snaps. (The diaper matched my wet bag.) The brand currently offers almost a dozen prints but no solid colors. For fans of fun prints, ecoAble provides a number of options for boys, girls, or both. The only downside is the lack of solid colors, which I tend to prefer. Regardless, I rate the available print options from ecoAble very highly in terms of variety and color combinations.

Design

Recommended for babies between 8 and 35 pounds, the all-in-two cloth diaper with charcoal bamboo insert from ecoAble consists of a breathable waterproof PUL exterior lined with a a very soft charcoal bamboo rayon interior. The charcoal bamboo material wicks moisture away to keep sensitive skin dry and comfortable. The front inside of the diaper features a strip of PUL that prevents leaks, which is especially great for tummy sleepers and boys. The waterproof shells includes a pocket opening on the back in which to stuff additional inserts and also features double leg gussets to help contain wetness and messes. This all-in-two comes with one snap-in five-layer charcoal bamboo insert, which attaches to the back of the diaper next to the pocket opening.

As a one-size diaper, the torso of the all-in-two cloth diaper with charcoal bamboo insert from ecoAble features three rows of three snaps that allow the diaper to adjust between small, medium, and large rise settings. The waist features two rows of slanted snaps, ten on top and eight on bottom. The wings feature double snaps, hip snaps, and a crossover snap to ensure the perfect fit on the tiniest babies through larger preschoolers and to prevent wing droop.

Laundering

Because of the natural bamboo fibers, the all-in-two cloth diaper with charcoal bamboo insert from ecoAble requires multiples washings to reach maximum absorbency. However, the company states that the diaper is ready to use after just one wash. I used mine after one initial wash without leaks, but I did also notice that the absorbency increased after subsequent washings.

As I have previously mentioned, I am super lazy in the laundry room, so any new diaper that I add to my stash must fit into my current wash routine. Between washes, I store my dirty ecoAble all-in-two cloth diaper with charcoal bamboo insert in a pail liner in my diaper pail. I typically leave the inserts snapped. On laundry day, I wash the diaper on warm with detergent and OxiClean followed by two cold rinses. I then typically allow the all-in-two shell to air dry on a drying rack, usually in front of a fan, which typically takes around 12 hours depending on the humidity. I generally machine dry the inserts on low for 80 to 90 minutes, although sometimes I air dry the inserts. I also sometimes tumble dry the shell. Although the natural fibers do take slightly longer to dry than my synthetic-fibered diapers, the ecoAble all-in-two cloth diaper with charcoal bamboo insert fits easily into my cloth diaper laundry routine, so I rate the diaper favorably in terms of laundering.

Performance

At 18 pounds and ten months old, my infant son wears the all-in-two cloth diaper with charcoal bamboo insert from ecoAble on the medium rise setting with one waist snap exposed. At 30 pounds, my preschooler daughter wears the diaper on the large rise setting with three sets of waist snaps exposed. Both my kiddos have plenty of room left to grow in the diaper. The crossover snaps would also have allowed my son to use the diaper at an even younger age as well. I thus rate the ecoAble all-in-two very highly in terms of sizing.

As an infant, my son was a heavy wetter who needed changed every two to four hours during the day. Now that he is a little older and a bit bigger, I consider him a moderate wetter. He now typically goes four hours between daytime diaper changes when wearing a high quality diaper with plenty of absorbency, and he almost always lasts four hours with a charcoal bamboo insert. The combination of microfiber and charcoal bamboo in the all-in-two cloth diaper with charcoal bamboo insert from ecoAble provides an extremely absorbent diaper for my little guy. Additionally, I can add two extra inserts into the pocket for overnight use so that he can wear the diaper at night for up to ten hours. I especially like that the charcoal bamboo wicks moisture away from his sensitive skin while locking away wetness. I also tested the ecoAble all-in-two on my daughter overnight a few weeks ago. She wore the diaper with the snap-in insert and an extra insert in the pocket. (She recently switched from diapers at night to training pants.) I thus rate the all-in-two cloth diaper with charcoal bamboo insert from ecoAble extremely highly in terms of absorbency.

The ecoAble all-in-two also performs well at containing solid messes. My son still primarily nurses but has started eating more solid food each day. He is thus still at the messy point between liquid EBF and solid food poop, with the consistency unpredictable. This all-in-two effectively performed at containing all consistencies of poop, from more liquid to more solid. I have not had any problems with poop escaping from the diaper, not even the couple of times that my son has put it to the test. The double leg gussets, in particular, help contain all manner of solid waste. I therefore rate the all-in-two cloth diaper with charcoal bamboo insert from ecoAble extremely highly in terms of containing solid messes.

Final Verdict

If you are an all-in-two fan, I definitely recommend checking out the all-in-two cloth diaper with charcoal bamboo insert from ecoAble. At $16.50, the shell plus snap-in insert is comparatively and affordably priced. Recommended for babies between 8 and 35 pounds, the diaper fits both my 18 pound infant and 30 pound preschooler with plenty of room to grow on both. I especially like the extra pocket opening on the back of the diaper, which lets me add additional inserts for maximum absorbency including overnight use. The double leg gussets, which I prefer, help contain moisture and messes. Overall, I rate the ecoAble all-in-two cloth diaper with charcoal bamboo insert extremely highly and recommend this diaper to other fans of all-in-twos, all-in-ones, and/or pocket diapers.
