Hipoglos Skin Protectant Ointment Review

Hipoglos

Since the birth of my daughter almost three years ago, I have tried many different kinds of diaper creams with varying degrees of success. When recently offered the chance to review the Latin American diaper rash ointment Hipoglos, I eagerly accepted the opportunity to test a new cream on my toddler daughter and newborn son. To facilitate my review, I received six tubes of Hipoglos Skin Protectant Ointment.

Hipoglos Skin Protectant Ointment

Price

Hipoglos Skin Protectant Ointment currently costs $8.22 plus shipping for a 4.2-ounce tube and $5.87 plus shipping for a 2.2-ounce tube on Amazon. The diaper rash cream is comparatively priced to similar ointments.

Ingredients

According to the box, the two active ingredients in Hipoglos Skin Protectant Ointment are lanolin and zinc oxide, both of which function as skin protectants. Inactive ingredients in the diaper cream include alcohol, benzothonium chloride, cod liver oil, lavender fragrance, mineral oil, petrolatum, sorbitan monostearate, talc, vanillan, and water. Although not cloth diaper safe, Hipoglos Skin Protectant Ointment does contain ingredients such as zinc oxide proven to treat and prevent diaper rash.

Performance

I have used Hipoglos Skin Protectant Ointment on both my toddler daughter and my newborn son.  The diaper cream quickly cleared up diaper rashes on both my children. On my daughter, Hipoglos cleared up a red rash on her bum after only one application at bedtime. On my son, the ointment improved the irritated skin between his legs and torso after only a few uses. I therefore rate the cream very highly in terms of effectiveness.

Compared to other rash creams, I consider Hipoglos Skin Protectant Ointment medium in thickness. The cream covers fully to soothe irritated skin. However, unlike many other zinc-based ointments, Hipoglos wipes off fairly easily. I appreciate that I can remove old cream from delicate baby skin with only a regular wipe and without scrubbing vigorously. In addition to the thickness, I also enjoy the scent of Hipoglos Skin Protectant Ointment. The cream smells fresh without the overpowering aroma of many other diaper rash ointments.

For cloth diaper users, I do recommend using a barrier between the Hipoglos Skin Protectant Ointment and the cloth diaper. The lanolin and cod liver oil can cause buildup and repelling issues. I personally use a piece of old washcloth between my children and my cloth diapers when I use my Hipoglos. I have not had any issues with the ointment leaking through the barrier, so, although not technically cloth diaper safe, Hipoglos is compatible with fluffy bum babies.

Final Verdict

In my three years of diapering,  I have tried a variety of diaper rash creams. Compared to other brands, I rate Hipoglos Skin Protectant Ointment very highly. The cream effectively clears up redness and irritation in as little as a single application. Medium in thickness, the cream wipes off easily without scrubbing. I also like the fresh but light scent. If you are looking for an effective diaper cream that works quickly to treat and prevent diaper rash, I recommend Hipoglos Skin Protectant Ointment.
