As a fan of covers, I have tried a variety of inserts inside my cloth diapers. After receiving a few flats to try, I discovered that the style worked well on my daughter overnight. Then when I saw the adorable Imagine Birdseye Printed Flat Diapers in a review from Life Is Not Bubble Wrapped, I decided to purchase a package to test and review.
Price
Imagine Birdseye Printed Flat Diapers are affordably priced at $19.95 for a package of six at Nicki’s Diapers, meaning each flat costs $3.33. I purchased mine on sale for $17.95, which brings the price down to $2.99 each. Nicki’s Diapers often runs sales on the Imagine line of cloth diapers, so you rarely need to pay full price for the printed flats.
Prints
I purchased my Imagine Birdseye Printed Flat Diapers in the Trumpet (elephants) print. Imagine also offers Flutter (butterflies), Rawr (dinosaurs), and Tree Friends (forest animals). All the prints coordinate with another cover or diaper in the Imagine line. I personally chose Trumpet because my daughter loves elephants and because the print is gender neutral.
Laundering
The Imagine Birdseye Printed Flat Diapers consist of 100% birdseye weave cotton sewn to the dimensions of 27 inches by 27 inches. (Allow for five to ten percentage shrinkage after the first washing.) Because of the natural fibers, Imagine recommends prepping the flats with three washings and dryings prior to initial use to reach maximum absorbency.
Washing the Imagine Birdseye Printed Flat Diapers is incredibly easy. I am especially fond of the quick dry time. Between diaper changes, I store my dirty flats in my cloth diaper laundry pail. On wash day, I wash my diapers in a hot wash with two to three tablespoons of Rockin’ Green and one-half to one tablespoon of OxiClean followed by two cold rinses. I then usually hang the flats to dry. Because of the single layer of material, the Imagine Birdseye Printed Flat Diapers air dry in front of a fan in only a few hours! If I am in a rush, I can machine dry the flats as well in under an hour.
Performance
Although thin compared to the prefolds and inserts in my stash, the Imagine Birdseye Printed Flat Diapers are incredibly absorbent. I prefer to use a rectangle fold, folding the flat in half twice and then into thirds. I then lay the pad inside a cover. A single Imagine Birdseye Printed Flat Diapers lasts my daughter for two to four hours without any leaks. Overnight, I use two Imagine Birdseye Printed Flat Diapers inside a cover for up to twelve hours without any problems. In other words, the flats from Imagine offer ease-of-use and high performance.
The Imagine Birdseye Printed Flat Diapers also work well within a variety of covers. For example, the flats fit exceptionally well inside the Imagine One-Size Diaper Cover, Imagine One-Size All-in-Two Cloth Diaper, and Flip Diaper Covers. I have also used the flats inside some of my various pocket diapers and my Best Bottom Diapers and Buttons Diapers.
Final Verdict
If you are searching for an affordable cloth diaper solution that is also easy to launder, I highly recommend the Imagine Birdseye Printed Flat Diapers. At $19.95 for a package of six, the flats are comparably priced to other soakers. The biggest positives for me are the adorable prints, the absorbency, and the ease of laundering. I also love that I can use the flats on my daughter both day and night with fantastic leak-free results. If you are a fan of flats, I definitely recommend Imagine Birdseye Printed Flat Diapers!
