As my readers know, I am a huge fan of covers and all-in-two cloth diapers. However, last summer I ventured into the world of all-in-ones with much success. Thus, when I put together a small newborn stash for my second baby, I bought some newborn all-in-ones to try. In addition to the Imagine One-Size Stay-Dry All-in-One and Imagine One-Size Bamboo All-in-One that I bought for my daughter, I also purchased an Imagine Newborn Stay-Dry All-in-One and an Imagine Newborn Bamboo All-in-One to test and review.
Price
Both the Imagine Newborn Stay-Dry All-in-One and the Imagine Newborn Bamboo All-in-One are more reasonably priced compared to other brands of all-in-ones. The Stay-Dry version currently retails for $8.95 at Nicki’s Diapers and the Bamboo version for $9.95. In terms of price, I rate the newborn all-in-ones from Imagine Baby Products extremely highly.
Prints
I purchased the Imagine Newborn Stay-Dry All-in-One in the Rawr print (dark blue with blue, green, and brown dinosaurs) and the Imagine Newborn Bamboo All-in-One in the Ring-a-Ding print (gray with overlapping white circles). Both versions of the diaper come in a total of nine colors and prints.
Closures
Because I prefer snaps, I purchased both the Imagine Newborn Stay-Dry All-in-One and the Imagine Newborn Bamboo All-in-One in snap closures. Both versions also come in hook and loop. For the snap version, both diapers feature an umbilical cord dip to allow extra room for a healing umbilical cord, two rows of four snaps, and one hip snap. The snaps are identical on both versions of the Imagine newborn all-in-one.
Inserts
Both the Imagine Newborn Stay-Dry All-in-One and the Imagine Newborn Bamboo All-in-One feature soaker pads sewn into the back and snapped into the front. The snaps allow for easier laundering.
The difference between the Imagine Newborn Stay-Dry All-in-One and the Imagine Newborn Bamboo All-in-One inserts is the material. The Stay-Dry version offers a three-layer microfiber insert topped with polar fleece. The interior of the Stay-Dry is also lined with super soft polar fleece to wick away moisture. The Bamboo version offers a three-layer bamboo insert made from 70% bamboo and 30% cotton. The interior of the Bamboo is also lined with the super absorbent bamboo-cotton fabric.
Thus, the main difference between the Imagine Newborn Stay-Dry All-in-One and the Imagine Newborn Bamboo All-in-One is the material on the interior of the diaper. The stay-dry provides synthetic fibers and the bamboo natural fibers.
Laundering
Because of the difference in interior material, the Imagine Newborn Stay-Dry All-in-One and the Imagine Newborn Bamboo All-in-One do wash and dry differently. First, for prep, the stay-dry version is a wash and go diaper. Simply wash and dry the diaper once before use. I washed mine following my regular laundry routine: Warm wash with Rockin’ Green and Oxiclean followed by two cold rinses. The bamboo version, however, requires a recommended three washes and dries before the initial use to prep the natural fibers. I do suggest washing and drying the bamboo all-in-one at least three times to achieve maximum absorbency. Otherwise, you will need to change the diaper more often at first to prevent leaks.
In addition to requiring more prep, the Imagine Newborn Bamboo All-in-One also takes longer to dry than the Imagine Newborn Stay-Dry All-in-One. I like to hang my diapers to air dry. The stay-dry version dries fully within a couple hours. I then toss the diaper in the dryer for about ten minutes to zap any remaining moisture. If I only tumble dry the stay-dry version, then the diaper requires about an hour in the dryer. The bamboo version, however, takes much longer to dry, both hanging up and in the dryer. My bamboo diaper still feels slightly damp even after air drying in front of a fan for twelve hours. In the dryer alone, the bamboo requires almost two hours. I typically allow the bamboo version to dry overnight and then toss the diaper in my next full load of laundry to get rid of the remaining wetness. If time is a consideration, I recommend the stay-dry version of the Imagine newborn all-in-one over the bamboo version.
Performance
Imagine Baby Products recommends both the Imagine Newborn Stay-Dry All-in-One and the Imagine Newborn Bamboo All-in-One for babies between 5 and 13 pounds. My son weighed 7 pounds at birth and wore both diapers on the smallest waist setting with the umbilical dip snapped. At seven weeks old and 11 pounds, he wore both diapers with two waist snaps visible and the umbilical dip unsnapped. At three months and 14 pounds, he still wore both diapers with two waist snaps exposed. By four months and 15 pounds, my son still wore the diapers with two waist snaps exposed, but the waists were rather snug, indicating the upper limit of the newborn diapers.
Compared to the smallest configuration of the one-size versions of the diapers, the Imagine Newborn Stay-Dry All-in-One and the Imagine Newborn Bamboo All-in-One are slightly smaller. At only a few weeks old, my son could already wear the one-size versions, but the diapers were rather bulky on him. For smaller newborns, the newborn versions offer a better fit compared to the one-size versions.
In terms of absorbency, I have not really noticed a difference between the Imagine Newborn Stay-Dry All-in-One and the Imagine Newborn Bamboo All-in-One. I consider my son a fairly heavy wetter, but both versions of the diaper last him for between two and four hours before leaking. Both diapers also effectively contain exclusively breastfed (EBF) newborn poop. I did not experience any problems with messy blowouts with either diaper. Additionally, I love the gentle leg casings on both diapers. I personally like that I can slap either all-in-one on my son quickly without messing with unencased leg elastics. Diaper changes go extremely quickly when I am using my newborn all-in-ones from Imagine Baby Products.

Final Verdict
Within the newborn all-in-one line, Imagine Baby Products offers nearly identical features in both the Imagine Newborn Stay-Dry All-in-One and the Imagine Newborn Bamboo All-in-One. Both versions offer the same colors and prints and both snap and hook and loop closures. The snaps on both diapers are the same, and the fit is pretty much identical. The main difference between the two all-in-ones is the price and the interior material. The bamboo version is more expensive than the stay-dry. The Imagine Newborn Stay-Dry All-in-One also offers a synthetic microfiber and fleece interior while the Imagine Newborn Bamboo All-in-One offers a natural bamboo and cotton interior. The difference in interior material affects laundering times. If you are looking for a less expensive newborn all-in-one, then I recommend the stay-dry version. I also recommend the stay-dry version if you want shorter laundering times. However, both versions perform similarly, so I highly recommend both the Imagine Newborn Stay-Dry All-in-One and the Imagine Newborn Bamboo All-in-One.
