Justified Laboratories Mosquito Repellent Patch Review

Justified Laboratories Mosquito Repellent Patch Review

Over the past few weeks as the weather has finally turned hot, my kids and I have been spending as many evenings as possible outside in our backyard. I have been working on my landscaping projects as my kids play around the yard. Warmer weather, unfortunately, also means mosquitos. With the threat of mosquito-borne illnesses, I keep plenty of insect repellents on hand. Thus, when recently offered the chance to review some mosquito repellent patches from Justified Laboratories in exchange for my honest opinion, I eagerly accepted the opportunity.

Price

The twelve-pack of mosquito repellent patches from Justified Laboratories currently retails for $14.99 on Amazon. Each patch costs approximately $1.25. A single patch lasts for six to eight hours after activation, so a pack can last for almost two weeks. I therefore consider the price quite reasonable.

Design

Non-toxic and DEET-free, the mosquito repellent patches from Justified Laboratories contain all natural lemon eucalyptus and essential oils that help stop mosquito bites and repel insects. Each patch measures 2.5 by 2.5 inches that offer 96 hours of total protection. The essential oils are effective up to eight hours after activation. Apply the patch to skin, clothing, lawn chairs, tables, and any other nearby surface. The patch is non-transdermal, meaning the essential oils do not come in contact with the skin, making the insect repellent safe for children, pregnant women, and adults of all ages. All Justified Laboratories products are formulated in a state of the art GMP-certified and FDA-registered certified facility.

Performance

Using the mosquito repellent patches from Justified Laboratories is super simple. Start by scratching the tissue of the patch to break the microcapsules filled with essential oils. I had to rub pretty hard to activate the capsules, which tells me that the patches are less likely to break open accidentally in the package. The patches smell like citronella with a hint of lemon. After activating the essential oils, remove the patch from the paperboard backing. Finally apply the patch using the sticker backing to your desired surface. I usually put one on my sleeve. The packaging recommends using two patches — one on the upper body and one on the lower — for complete protection for adults. The protection range is three feet, so I can get away with using only one patch. Both of my young children can also use just one patch.

I like that the mosquito repellent patches from Justified Laboratories feature a non-permeable adhesive layer so that the essential oils do not come in contact with the skin. Essential oils can cause skin irritation and other problems, but I feel confident using these patches on my kids because the patches are non-transdermal. I also have sensitive skin that becomes irritated easily. If you do not want to wear the patch directly on your skin, you can also apply it to your clothing. As I mentioned, I usually wear mine on my sleeve. With my toddler son, I can put the patch on the back of his clothing so that he is not tempted to play with it. These mosquito repellent patches offer excellent versatility.

My kids and I love hanging out in our backyard in the evenings. With the looming threat of zika and other mosquito-borne illnesses, I definitely want to protect my family from insect bites as much as possible. The lemon eucalyptus and essential oils in these patches seem to repel insects including mosquitos effectively. The only downside of these bracelets is that herbal insect repellents do not work against all disease-carrying bugs. While I will definitely use these bracelets while in my own backyard or at a local park in the evenings, I will still use a conventional bug spray containing DEET when I venture into terrain prone to ticks or heavily infested with mosquitos. However, I find that the mosquito repellent patches from Justified Laboratories work well for a few hours in my backyard in the evenings.

Final Verdict

If you are looking for an herbal insect repellent, I recommend giving the mosquito repellent patches from Justified Laboratories a try. Non-toxic and DEET-free, the patches contain all natural lemon eucalyptus and essential oils that help stop mosquito bites and repel insects. Each patch measures 2.5 by 2.5 inches and offers six to eight hours of protection. Using the patches is as easy is breaking open the microcapsules, removing the backing, and sticking the patch to your desired surface. The non-permeable adhesive layer ensures that the essential oils do not come in contact with the skin. I plan to use the Justified Laboratories mosquito repellent patches on myself and my children throughout the summer as we spend the hot evenings in our backyard.
