L Is for Lion Handprint and Footprint Craft

L is for lion! Help your toddler learn about the letter L by making a fun lion handprint and footprint craft.

Materials

  • Orange, yellow, and black nontoxic paint
  • Blank paper
  • Paper plate or scrap cardboard
  • Cotton ball
  • Cotton swab or paintbrush

Instructions

  1. Pour some orange paint onto the cardboard.
  2. Use a cotton ball to spread a thin layer of orange paint on your child’s hand.
  3. Press the handprint into the top center of the paper.
  4. Wash the paint off your child’s hand.
  5. Pour some yellow paint onto the cardboard.
  6. Use a cotton ball to spread a thin layer of yellow paint on your child’s foot.
  7. Press the footprint onto the paper slightly overlapping the palm of the handprint with the toes pointing down.
  8. Wash the paint off your child’s foot.
  9. Use a cotton ball to spread a thin layer of yellow paint on your child’s finger.
  10. Press the fingerprint coming off the center of the footprint.
  11. Wash the paint off your child’s finger.
  12. Use a cotton ball to spread a thin layer of orange paint on your child’s fingertip.
  13. Press the fingertip print onto the end of the yellow fingerprint.
  14. Pour some black paint onto the cardboard.
  15. Use a cotton ball to spread a thin layer of black paint on your child’s fingertip.
  16. Press three black fingerprints onto the heel of the footprint to form two eyes and a mouth. Reapply the black paint as needed.
  17. Wash the paint off your child’s fingertip.
  18. Use a paintbrush to paint six whiskers in black from the face of the lion.
  19. Use a paintbrush to paint “L is for lion” in orange on the paper.
