As my readers know, I am not generally a fan of pocket diapers. Although I think that pocket diapers are great cloth diapers overall, I hate stuffing and unstuffing the inserts. However, after reading a number of positive reviews about The Little Bee Co. including from The Median Mommy, I jumped at the opportunity to review a pocket diaper from The Little Bee Co. Despite my general dislike of stuffing and unstuffing pockets, I am more than happy to spend the extra bit of time with my The Little Bee Co. diaper because I have found another diaper that I can use on my daughter overnight.
I received three pocket diapers from The Little Bee Co. Brazilian Ameythst is light purple with white snaps. Japanese Cherry Blossom is pink with white snaps. Samoa’kin Posey is a pink and blue flower print with white snaps. In addition to the three diapers that I received, The Little Bee Co. also offers a number of other colors and prints for boys and girls.
The Little Bee Co. pocket is a one-size diaper. The torso features three rows of two snaps that allow the diaper to adjust between small, medium, and large sizes. The diaper fits babies between 8 and 35 pounds. My daughter currently weighs about 26 pounds and wears the diaper on the largest torso setting. The waist of the diaper features two rows of ten snaps. At two years old, my daughter wears the diaper on the second to largest hip setting. However, I am confident that the diaper will continue to fit her through potty training.
Although I generally prefer double leg gussets on my cloth diapers, I have yet to experience any problems with leaks with my The Little Bee Co. pocket diaper. The elastic on the single leg gussets of the diaper hug my daughter snuggly but comfortably. I can even use the diaper on her overnight for up to twelve hours without having to worry about leaks on her jammies or on our bed.
I received the Bee Changed Ultra Cool Pocket OS from The Little Bee Co. The outer of the diaper consists of 100% polyester. The inner consists of 60% bamboo, 30% organic cotton, and 10% coolplus. Coolplus is a poly/nylon blend that provides the ultimate comfort for a baby. With intense wicking properties, quick water diffusion rate, speedy drying time, and excellent air permeability, the coolplus material keep baby super dry and super comfortable. Even after up to twelve hours overnight, my daughter still feels dry and comfortable. The Little Bee Co. also offers a Bee Changed Bamboo Pocket OS and a Bee Changed Microsuede Pocket OS as well as newborn diapers and swim diapers.
In addition to the three diapers, I also received three mircrofiber double insert sets. The microfiber inserts consist of 100% polyester. The snaps on the inserts allow for six different layer combinations of inserts, customizable for boys and girls. Plus the microfiber is incredibly absorbent. My two-year-old daughter sleeps up to twelve hours at night. However, I can put my The Little Bee Co. diaper on her at bedtime and not have to worry about leaks until the morning.
Using my The Little Bee Co. pocket diaper on my daughter is incredibly easy. First I stuff the inserts inside the pocket on the back of the diaper. After adjusting the torso snaps, I snap the diaper on my daughter using the hip snaps. At diaper change time, I unsnap the hip snaps, remove the diaper from my daughter, pull the inserts out of the pocket, place the soiled diaper and inserts in my wet bag, and put a new diaper on my daughter. On laundry day, I wash my The Little Bee Co. diapers using my usual wash routine. I then machine dry the inserts and line dry the diaper. Once almost dry, the diaper get tossed in the dryer for about ten minutes to zap any remaining moisture.
I love my new The Little Bee Co. pocket diapers, especially for overnight use on my daughter, but I must also mention another awesome point about The Little Bee Co. The “bee changed and change the world” mission of The Little Bee Co. means that, for each diaper purchased, the company donates a diaper to an orphan in need. The Little Bee Co. is currently working with orphanages is Africa, Haiti, Guatemala, Honduras, and Cambodia to organize future “Diaper Drops.” To learn more about the diapers that The Little Bee Co. donates, check out the Diaper Drop section of the company website.
The Bee Changed Ultra Cool Pocket OS from The Little Bee Co. retails at $24.00 each. The mircrofiber double insert set retails at $5.00. At $29.00 per diaper, pocket diapers from The Little Bee Co. run on the higher end of the cloth diaper spectrum. However, for an overnight diaper that does not leak, the price is definitely worth the quality.
Final Verdict: Despite my preference for not stuffing pocket diapers, I have added my three pocket diapers from The Little Bee Co. to my overnight stash of diapers for my daughter. The coolplus material in the inside lining is incredibly soft and keeps my daughter try all night long. The adjustable microfiber inserts are incredibly absorbent, which is especially important for a diaper in use for up to twelve hours at a time. At $29.00 each, The Little Bee Co. diapers are definitely premium diapers. However, the quality is worth the price. Plus, for each diaper purchased, the company donates a diaper to an orphan in need. I highly recommend The Little Bee Co. to fans of pocket diapers.
