Even the most diehard cloth diaper addict will sometimes admit to using disposable diapers at night. I, however, use cloth diapers on my daughter all the time, both day and night. In fact, when I first switched to cloth diapers, that I might not be able to find an overnight solution never even occurred to me. I just went to the cloth diaper store, picked out some daytime diapers and a nighttime diaper, went home, and switched entirely to cloth. I have only recently come to realize that some parents use disposables at night because of a lack of a good overnight nighttime cloth diaper solution.
The first overnight cloth diaper that I used for my daughter was a Blueberry pocket diaper with two Blueberry bamboo inserts and one microfiber insert. Even though my daughter sleeps for up to thirteen hours, we have never had a problem with leaks In fact, the bamboo is so absorbent that sometimes there is still a little dry spot on the very end of the bamboo layer farthest from her body.
Because I wanted to stop washing my cloth diapers every day, I decided that I needed a second overnight nighttime cloth diaper when my daughter was about six months old. For my second nighttime diaper, I use two four-layer microfiber-bamboo inserts from Alva Baby and one three-layer bamboo insert from Alva Baby. The microfiber wicks the moisture away from daughter’s skin, and the bamboo absorbs her thirteen hours of pee.
More recently, I also decided that I wanted to wash diapers every third day. I thus put together a third overnight nighttime cloth diaper using two four-layer microfiber-bamboo inserts from Alva Baby and one microfiber Stay Dry insert from Best Bottom. Again, the microfiber Stay Dry insert wicks the moisture away while the bamboo absorbs a lot of liquid.
In addition to the Blueberry pocket diaper that I use at night, I also use two other pocket diaper shells. The first is a white FuzziBunz diaper. When my daughter is out on the town, she prefers a more colorful diaper, so I use the plain white one on her at night. I also use a blue Happy Heinys pocket diaper at night because I am not as fond of the waist snaps for everyday use.
I may experiment with some other combinations of inserts such as the Sunbaby bamboo inserts as time goes on. However, for the moment, I am happy with my three overnight nighttime cloth diaper solutions at the moment.
