Letter J Preschool Activities

Objective: To learn about the letter J

Book(s): Josef’s Journal and the Letter J by Cynthia Klingel and Robert B. Noyed

American Sign Language: Hold the pinky finger straight up. Rest the other fingers and thumb on the palm. Draw the letter J with the pinky. (https://parentingpatch.com/baby-sign-language-fingerspelling-j-k-l/)

Craft/Activity 1: Little Letter J Book

Materials

  • Little Letter J Book template (http://www.themeasuredmom.com/list-of-nursery-rhymes-and-songs-for-letter-j/)
  • Blank paper
  • Stapler

Directions

  1. Print the Little Letter J Book template onto the blank paper.
  2. Cut an even line across the center of the page.
  3. Fold the two sheets to make a book.
  4. Staple the book together.
  5. Read the Little Letter J Book.

Craft/Activity 2: Paper Plate Jelly Fish (http://www.themeasuredmom.com/letter-j-crafts/)

Materials

  • Paper plate
  • Markers or paint
  • Glue
  • Yarn
  • Scissors
  • Google eyes

Directions

  1. Decorate the bottom of the paper plate with markers or paint.
  2. Cut the decorated plate in half.
  3. Cut the yarn into 12-inch pieces.
  4. Glue the two halves of the plate together with the yarn sandwiched between.
  5. Glue two google eyes on one side of the paper plate jelly fish.

Craft/Activity 3: Jewel Js

Materials

  • Letter J template (http://www.quality-kids-crafts.com/support-files/letter-j-template.pdf)
  • Blank paper
  • Jewel stickers

Directions

  1. Print the letter J template onto the blank paper.
  2. Decorate the Js with the jewel stickers.

Optional: Set the finished J craft aside to bind into a book at the end of the alphabet lesson.
