    Letter U Preschool Activities

    Objective: To learn about the letter U

    Craft/Activity 1: Little Letter U Book

    Materials

    • Little Letter U Book template (http://www.themeasuredmom.com/free-letter-book-songs-rhymes-letter-u/)
    • Blank paper
    • Stapler

    Directions

    1. Print the Little Letter U Book template onto the blank paper.
    2. Cut an even line across the center of the page.
    3. Fold the two sheets to make a book.
    4. Staple the book together.
    5. Read the Little Letter U Book.

    Craft/Activity 2: Paper Plate Underwater Urchins

    Materials

    • Paper plate
    • Paint
    • Paintbrush
    • Scissors
    • Blue paper
    • Glue

    Directions

    1. Paint the paper plate with the paint.
    2. After the paint dries, cut notches from around the edge of the plate to form spines.
    3. Glue the urchin on the blue paper.

    Materials

    • 5 kitchen sponges
    • Scissors
    • Yarn

    Directions

    1. Cut each sponge into three pieces lengthwise for a total of fifteen sponge strips.
    2. Lay down the strips in stacks of four (and one stack of three).
    3. Line up the stacks in a row.
    4. Lay the a piece of yarn on a flat surface.
    5. Set the row of stacked sponges on the yarn.
    6. Tie the yarn tightly around the sponges, cinching the centers of the sponges tightly.
    7. Fluff the sponges to form an urchin.

    Craft/Activity 4: Underwater U’s

    Materials

    • Letter U template (http://www.quality-kids-crafts.com/support-files/letter-u-template.pdf)
    • Blank paper
    • Blue marker
    • Colored paper
    • Scissors
    • Glue

    Directions

    1. Print the letter U template onto the blank paper.
    2. Colors the U’s with the blue marker.
    3. Cut small fish shapes from the colored paper.
    4. Glue the colored fish on the blue U’s.

    Optional: Set the finished U craft aside to bind into a book at the end of the alphabet lesson.
