The Rubber Ducky Project: 2017

At the beginning of 2013, I made a resolution to post a weekly photograph of a rubber duck. Because my daughter loved rubber duckies so much, my goal was to post a picture a week of one of her rubber ducks. I had so much fun taking and posting the pictures last year that I decided to continue the Rubber Ducky Project again this year. Here are the travels of the rubber ducky over the past year!

Week 1

The Duck and the Pittsburgh Zoo & PPG Aquarium features a rubber duck in front of the sign for the Pittsburgh Zoo & PPG Aquarium — one of only six major zoo and aquarium combinations in the United States — located in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania.

Week 2

The Duck and the Hither Hills West Overlook features a rubber duck at the Hither Hills West Overlook along the Montauk Highway on Long Island.

Week 3

The Duck and the Rapa Nui (Easter Island) Moai Cast features a rubber duck with the Easter Island Moai at the American Museum of Natural History in New York City.

Week 4

The Duck and Hannibal, Missouri features a rubber duck looking out over Hannibal, Missouri, the boyhood home of author Mark Twain.

Week 5

The Duck and the Delacorte Clock features a rubber duck beneath the Delacorte Clock — a clocked named after philanthropist George T. Delacorte that brings seasonal chimes and nursery rhymes on the half hour — in Central Park.

Week 6

The Duck and ‘Big Clay #4’ features a rubber duck beneath ‘Big Clay #4’ by Urs Fischer in Seagram Plaza in New York City.

Week 7

The Duck and Pennsylvania features a rubber duck at the mile marker 1 rest stop of Interstate 80 in Pennsylvania.

Week 8

The Duck and the Pigeon on the Empire State Building features a rubber duck next to a pigeon on top of the Empire State Building in New York City.

Week 9

The Duck and David’s Garden features a rubber duck next at David’s Garden, the Rose Garden between the Unisphere and the New York State Pavilion dedicated to David Oats, in Flushing Meadows-Corona Park in Queens.

Week 10

The Duck and the Central Park Zoo features a rubber duck outside the Central Park Zoo, the first official zoo to open in the city, in Manhattan in New York City.

Week 11

The Duck and Lover’s Leap in Hannibal, Missouri features a rubber duck looking out over the Mississippi River from Lover’s Leap on Highway 79 in Hannibal, Missouri, the boyhood home of author Mark Twain.

Week 12

The Duck and the Goats at the Queens Zoo features a rubber duck outside goat enclosure at the Queens Zoo in Queens, New York.

Week 13

The Duck and the Montauk Point Lighthouse features a rubber duck by the Montauk Point Lighthouse, a lighthouse located adjacent to Montauk Point State Park at the easternmost point of Long Island in the hamlet of Montauk. The lighthouse was the first built within the state of New York, the first public works project of the new United States, and the fourth oldest active lighthouse in the United States.

Week 14

The Duck and the Hubbard House features a rubber duck in Hudson, Illinois outside the Hubbard House, the boyhood home of American writer and philosopher Elbert Hubbard.

Week 15

The Duck and Bowling Green features a rubber duck at Bowling Green, a small public park in the Financial District of Lower Manhattan and the oldest public park in New York City.

Week 16

The Duck and Belvedere Castle features a rubber duck at Belvedere Castle, a folly in Central Park in Manhattan in New York City that contains exhibit rooms, an observation deck, and the location of the official Central Park weather station since 1919.

Week 17

The Duck and Belvedere Tower features a rubber duck next to the Belvedere Tower plaque at Belvedere Castle.
