Sweet Pea Diapers Bamboo All-in-One Cloth Diaper Review

Sweet Pea Diapers Bamboo All-in-One Review

“Isn’t your sweet pea worth it?” is the motto of Sweet Pea Diapers. I like to believe that my sweet peas are! My favorite cloth diaper retailer, Nicki’s Diapers, recently started stocking the brand, so the brand was in the forefront of my mind. Thus, when the Sweet Pea Diapers recently approached me about reviewing a bamboo all-in-one, I enthusiastically accepted the opportunity. I am a huge fan of all-in-ones for my son, so I was eager to try a new-to-me brand.

Price

The bamboo all-in-one from Sweet Pea Diapers currently retails for $21.95, which I consider moderately priced for a bamboo all-in-one. Both higher and lower priced diapers with a similar design exist on the market. I am comfortable with the price the Sweet Pea Diapers bamboo all-in-one.

I received a bamboo all-in-one from Sweet Pea Diapers in the Bandit Raccoon print, which features gray raccoons, blue stars, and yellow crescent moons on a light blue background with blue snaps. Sweet Pea Diapers currently offers the bamboo all-in-one in seventeen adorable colors and prints for boys, girls, and both. I rate the available color and print options from Sweet Pea Diapers very highly in terms of variety. You are sure to find a diaper that fits your style!

Recommended for babies between 8 and 35+ pounds, the bamboo all-in-one cloth diaper from Sweet Pea Diapers consists of a 100% polyester PUL exterior with an interior made with bamboo fleece, bamboo velour, and micro fleece. The bamboo fleece consists of 70% rayon viscose from bamboo and 30% cotton; the bamboo velour of 56% rayon from bamboo, 24% cotton, and 20% polyester; and the microfleece of 80% polyester and 20% poly amide.

The Sweet Pea Diapers bamboo all-in-one features two inserts, one attached and one removable. The tongue-style insert sewn into the back of the diaper consists of bamboo cotton topped with bamboo velour. The snap-in soaker consists of a layer of microfiber sandwiched between two layers of bamboo cotton. I really love the versatility that Sweet Pea Diapers offers. If I need a trimmer fit, I can remove the snap-in insert from the diaper. When I want more absorbency, I can use both the sewn-in and snap-in inserts.

As a one-size diaper, the torso of the bamboo all-in-one from Sweet Pea Diapers features three rows of three snaps that allow the diaper to adjust between small, medium, and large rise settings. The waist features two rows of ten snaps. The wings feature two rows of two snaps. One wing additionally includes two rows of two crossover snaps that ensure the perfect fit on the smallest newborns.

Laundering

Sweet Pea Diapers provides fairly detailed washing instructions on the packaging of the bamboo all-in-one including recommended detergents and laundry products to avoid. As with all natural-fibered diapers, the bamboo all-in-one requires multiples washings to reach maximum absorbency. The company recommends only one washing prior to first use but warns that the diaper will not reach maximum absorbency until after four to six washings. I used mine after only one initial wash, and I have found that the absorbency increased considerably after each subsequent washing.

Because I am incredibly lazy in the laundry room, any new diaper that I add to my stash must fit into my current wash routine. Between washes, I store my dirty bamboo all-in-one cloth diaper from Sweet Pea Diapers in a pail liner in my diaper pail. On laundry day, I wash the diaper on hot with detergent and OxiClean followed by two cold rinses. I then allow the bamboo all-in-one to air dry on a drying rack, usually in front of a fan, which typically takes between 12 and 24 hours depending on the humidity. When I am in more of a hurry, I toss the clean, damp diaper in my dryer for 60 to 90 minutes on low. The only negative that I can mention about the Sweet Pea Diapers bamboo all-in-one cloth diaper is the dry time. The natural fibers do take considerably longer to dry than my synthetic-fibered diapers, but I have enough diapers in my stash to wait the extra half a day. Overall, the bamboo all-in-one from Sweet Pea Diapers fits easily into my cloth diaper laundry routine, so I rate the diaper favorably in terms of laundering.

Performance

At 18 pounds and nine months old, my infant son currently wears the bamboo all-in-one from Sweet Pea Diapers on the medium rise setting with one set of waist snaps exposed. Because of the crossover snaps on the hip tabs and the additional small rise snaps, I agree that much smaller babies could fit into this all-in-one. My slender preschooler daughter, who currently weighs 30 pounds, fits into the diaper on the large rise setting with four sets of waist snaps exposed. The bamboo all-in-one from Sweet Pea Diapers will definitely fit up to 35 pounds or more on most children. For thinner preschoolers like my daughter, this diaper may also fit well past the recommended maximum weight.

When wearing a high quality diaper, my son goes up to four hours during the day between diaper changes. He is a fairly heavy wetter, so I typically chance him every two to four hours to prevent leaking. Because of all the super absorbent bamboo in the bamboo in the diaper, my son more often than not wears his Sweet Pea Diapers bamboo all-in-one for a full four hours. I can also use the diaper on him at night for up to ten hours by adding an extra insert into the diaper. I like to add a stay dry microfiber insert on top of the bamboo inserts for overnight use. I thus rate the bamboo all-in-one from Sweet Pea Diapers extremely highly in terms of absorbing moisture.

As for solid messes, the Sweet Pea Diapers bamboo all-in-one performs equally well. My son still primarily breastfeeds, but he has started eating a bit more solid food eat day. He is therefore at the messy point between liquid EBF and solid food poop. This bamboo all-in-one did a great job containing all consistencies of poop, from more liquid to more solid. I have not had any problems with poop escaping from the diaper. I therefore rate the bamboo all-in-one from Sweet Pea Diapers extremely highly in terms of containing solid messes.

Final Verdict

I am a huge fan of all-in-ones for my son, and the Bandit Raccoon bamboo all-in-one from Sweet Pea Diapers is a new favorite in my stash. At $21.95 each, this cloth diaper is priced moderately within the all-in-one category. Recommended for babies between 8 and 35 pounds, the diaper fits both my 18 pound infant and 30 pound preschooler with plenty of room to grow on both. The two soakers, one sewn-in and one snap-in, offer customization and provide plenty of absorbency. This all-in-one performs excellently at containing both moisture and messes. The only negative that I can find with this diaper is the slightly longer dry time compared to microfiber because of the bamboo material. Overall, I rate the bamboo all-in-one from Sweet Pea Diapers extremely highly and recommend this diaper to other fans of all-in-ones.
