Using Pink Lemonade Shop Cloth Pads During Pregnancy (Sometimes Pregnant Women Pee)

Pink Lemonade Shop 12-Inch Dragonfly PadI am currently in week 24 of pregnancy with my second child, so you may wonder about my need for cloth menstrual pads at the moment. Prior to getting pregnant back in February, I had been using reusable pads during my periods for a little over half a year. Now that I am halfway through my pregnancy, I am still using my mama cloth on a daily basis. Why? Because pregnant women sometimes pee.

Although slightly embarrassing, slight urine leakage is a common symptom for many pregnant women. More frequent urination is a fact of life for the expectant mama. Between pregnancy hormones and a growing uterus that pushes on the bladder (plus all those kicks and punches from a small but strong developing baby), minor leakage is incredibly common. I personally find myself crossing my legs tight and praying a little each time I sneeze. At least my toddler daughter is unconcerned when I “pee pee” in my undies.

To avoid too much embarrassment, I have been using my stash of mama cloth from Pink Lemonade Shop for most of my current pregnancy. With cloth pads, when I do find myself unable to control my bladder, I simply change my pad instead of my underwear (and my pants). Most of my stash is minky, but I am also loving my new bamboo velour mini liners. Both are incredibly soft and incredibly absorbent — not just for menstrual fluids but for other fluids associated with pregnancy (yes, I mean pee!).

In addition to using my cloth panty liners, I also recently received a new 12-inch pad from Pink Lemonade Shop. I have slowly been building my stash to include more postpartum pads for after the birth of my second child. The 12-inch pad is a perfect addition to my stash. However, I have also been using the larger pad at night. The larger size makes me feel confident about not needing to get up and rush to the bathroom in the middle of night. (Yes, pregnant women sometimes have nighttime accidents.) Plus, if my water breaks again while I am sleeping, I can relax knowing that my cloth pad will catch most of the fluid. My husband will not have to rush to change our sheets while I am in labor!

Although I was a bit concerned about the large size of the postpartum and overnight pads from Pink Lemonade Shop at first, I am now completely sold on the idea. I am a small woman who wears a size medium panty. I also prefer bikini-cut panties over briefs. Despite the lowness of my undies, the 12-inch pad fits perfectly inside my underwear. In fact, I think that the larger size is more comfortable than even some of the smaller sizes for overnight use. The larger size means the pad stays put in my underwear despite my tossing and turning all night.

So, yes, the primary purpose of cloth menstrual pads is to catch menstrual fluids. However, mama cloth is also extremely versatile. Not only do I use my liners as a barrier against leukorrhea (another common symptom of pregnancy), but I also use my mama cloth as protection against embarrassing leaks and accidents. Yes, sometimes pregnant women pee. Thankfully my cloth pads from Pink Lemonade Shop have saved me on more than one occasion!
