‘Wow! Said the Owl’ Book Review

My toddler daughter is currently working on mastering her colors. For the most part, she can name all the basic colors. Because she also really likes owls at the moment, Wow! Said the Owl by Tim Hopgood is a perfect book for her.

In Wow! Said the Owl, one curious owl decides to stay up all day to discover the world. As she quickly learns, the world during the day is full of colors. Each page of the story focuses on one or two different colors and names a few parts of the world that the owl saw in that particular color. My toddler loved pointing out the colors throughout the book.

I particularly like the illustrations in Wow! Said the Owl. Instead of just talking about the different colors that the owl sees, each page features the color. When the owl discovers yellow, a yellow sun fills up on page while the background of the opposite page is yellow behind the owl sitting on the branch of a tree. By the end, a rainbow fills the pages with all the beautiful colors that the owl had discovered.

Final Verdict: Wow! Said the Owl by Tim Hopgood is a perfect book for young readers learning about colors. Recommended for toddlers and preschoolers between the ages of 2 and 4 years old, this book helps teach basic colors through an interesting story and beautiful illustrations that bring the text — and colors — to life. If your young reader is learning his or her colors, I cannot recommend Wow! Said the Owl more highly!
