The first episode of Hello Kitty and Friends: Supercute Adventures aired on October 26, 2020. I remember being home with my eldest daughter (then 2 years old) due to COVID-19. This is when I transitioned into freelancing writing as my core career. I was looking for anything and everything to keep my little one occupied. We switched between outside play at our apartment complex and non-tech toddler learning activities.

Hello Kitty and Friends: Supercute Adventures became one of our favorite shows to watch together. We still watch the newest episodes to this day when the YouTube channel releases them. As of now, there are 11 seasons and 160 episodes available to watch for free on YouTube.

This delightful cartoon encompasses an overall theme of friendship. Although there are many episodes, I understand that many children in the show’s target age range can move on quickly, so I’ve chosen to focus on 20 episodes from the first three seasons. Hopefully, these episodes will showcase what the show is all about, and they will bring you and your little ones the same joy it has brought to me and my daughter.

Happy Napgus, Pompompurin! (Season 3, Episode 4)

Hello Kitty and the gang are enjoying a beach day together. Pompompurin wants to spend time with his friends while also attempting to set a new personal record for his longest nap taken. His friends recognize how important Napgus is to Pompompurin and help him stay asleep with various activities, such as relaxing in the sand and going rafting. The friends have to prevent him from hitting obstacles as he sleepwalks. Pompompurin breaks his record, and he wakes up to find all his friends sleeping.

What “Happy Napgus, Pompompurin!” Teaches About Friendship

This episode from Hello Kitty & Friends: Supercute Adventures teaches themes of teamwork and caring about others. Working together to achieve a goal that helps out a friend is admirable and noble. Caring about what others want to do is part of coming to a compromise when planning activities to do with friends. My children’s father drove us home one Saturday after a family outing to a local flea market so that I could work on one of my Parenting Patch projects. This was a compromise we came to when I asked him if it was okay for him to drive home, since I had driven us to the destination.

Cinnamoroll’s Dance Craze (Season 2, Episode 12)

Cinnamoroll's Dance Craze

My eldest daughter’s favorite Sanrio character is Cinnamoroll, so she is always excited when he’s featured in an episode. In “Cinnamoroll’s Dance Craze”, the titular character is nervous when he’s captured dancing in the background of a social media video Kurmoi shoots for Badtz-Maru. His dance moves become popular all over town, but he is super shy with all the attention. In the end, Badtz-Maru accidentally posts a video of himself sneezing, which also becomes a new popular dance craze.

What “Cinnamoroll’s Dance Craze” Teaches About Friendship

Friends need to be cautious about what they post about others on social media. This is important for being respectful and mindful of others’ wishes. When shooting a video, it’s proper to ask background individuals if they’d like to be featured. My children’s father doesn’t post much on social media, and he dislikes that kind of attention, much like Cinnamoroll does. Hence, I keep any pictures I take of him with the kids in my library without posting on social media.

Kuromi’s Bad Day (Season 1, Episode 13)

Kuromis Bad Day - Hello Kitty and Friends - Supercute Adventures

Kuromi wakes up in a bad mood, symbolized by a gray cloud that looms overhead for most of the episode. She has bad thoughts of mean actions she could take against her friends as she passes by them while driving on her moped. However, she doesn’t act on these thoughts and makes it to Hello Kitty’s Cafe. Kuromi requests milk from Hello Kitty. When Hello Kitty realizes how grumpy Kuromi is, she also gives her a pink-frosted donut with sprinkles on it in the house. Kurmoi is touched by this kindness Hello Kitty showed her on her bad day that her grumpiness instantly melts away.

What “Kuromi’s Bad Day” Teaches About Friendship

It’s natural for people sometimes to have a bad day for whatever reason. Whether they didn’t get enough sleep or if something happened that upset them, it’s difficult to snap out of a bad mood. “Kuromi’s Bad Day” teaches others to do something nice for someone just out of the kindness of their heart. You never know what someone else is going through, and your kindness could be what helps them have a better day.

Left Out (Season 1, Episode 14)

Keroppi is eating ice cream at Hello Kitty’s Cafe. He opens up to Hello Kitty about how he felt left out when Kuromi and Badtz-Maru went to a video game championship without him. Her fish grants Keroppi’s wish of being at the video game championship with his friends after giving him his ice cream. Keroppi is transported to the video game Kuromi and Badtz-Maru are playing at the moment. He realizes he wasn’t invited because he had never played that game before. It turns out Kuromi and Badtz-Maru use their winnings to buy a copy of the game for Keroppi.

What “Left Out” Teaches About Friendship

Unfortunately, friends cannot do everything together. However, this doesn’t mean that friends aren’t thinking about each other when they aren’t around one another. Sometimes, friends may have a surprise in store for you even if they are attending an event without one of their buddies. My daughter gets annoyed if she finds out from my front seat that I ate McDonald’s that day while she was at school. Sometimes, I surprise her by bringing a kids’ meal home for her.

Hello Kitty and her friends organize an Omatsuri festival. Keroppi and Pompompurin are responsible for handing out the festival invitations to everyone in town. The two buddies get sidetracked, leaving Hello Kitty to pick up the slack in getting the rest of the festival organized.

What “Special Delivery” Teaches About Friendship

Friends need to work together to achieve a goal. Dedicating yourself without distraction is the best way to help out a friend. One time, one of my closest high school friends needed help getting places because she didn’t have a vehicle. I assisted her by putting her son’s car seat in the back of my car. I also helped load some stuff from her storage unit into my car so that I could take it back to her hotel room. I gave her my full attention until I went home for the night on the couple of days that I helped her.

Keroppi Faces the Music (Season 2, Episode 2)

Keroppi wants to learn to play the trumpet, but he’s having trouble grasping the skills. Hello Kitty, My Melody, and the rest of their friends try giving constructive criticism without saying their trumpeting is too loud.

What “Keroppi Faces the Music” Teaches About Friendship

It’s challenging to be honest with friends for fear of hurting their feelings. However, honesty is the best way to be transparent and open with those you love. As co-parents, my children’s father and I have been on a long journey of achieving honesty and transparency about how we parent our children. We have to regularly collaborate to agree on how we guide the children, and this episode of Hello Kitty & Friends: Supercute Adventures is a great way to show that lesson to our children.

All Thumbs (Season 2, Episode 3)

My Melody makes a craft for her CuteTube channel. She receives her first-ever thumbs down on the video, making her feel sad and annoyed. She’s curious to know who left the negative engagement, so Chococat helps her do so. It turns out My Melody accidentally hit thumbs down on her video when she was scrolling too fast.

What “All Thumbs” Teaches About Friendship

It’s okay to give your friends constructive criticism. You can’t please everyone with everything you do. Continue doing what you love, and your closest friends will support your endeavors.

Hello Kitty’s Bake Off (Season 2, Episode 4)

Pompompurin and Cinnamoroll participate in a bake-off at Hello Kitty’s Cafe. They are competing to see which dish will be featured on her menu. Cinnamoroll’s cinnamon cake and Pompompurin’s pineapple cake meld together to form a delicious cinnamon pineapple moon cake. Hello Kitty loves the taste after trying it. Hence, both their inputs end up on the menu in the form of this moon cake.

What “Hello Kitty’s Bake Off” Teaches About Friendship

Sometimes putting ideas together makes something turn out better. Teamwork and cooperation are needed for achieving a goal.

My Melody’s Tea Party (Season 2, Episode 5)

My Melody invites her friends to a fancy tea party where formal wear is required. Kuromi is embarrassed that she doesn’t have a fancy enough dress to attend. My Melody offers to loan Kuromi one of her dresses. After many try-on sessions, she sticks with a frilly pink dress. She eventually puts touches on the dress so it’s more like her style.

What “My Melody’s Tea Party” Teaches About Friendship

Helping friends can be the assistance they need to begin supporting themselves. Inspiration and encouragement from a friend can push someone in the right direction to find their solution. I always talk with my daughter if she’s having a problem and give her suggested solutions. She chooses how to solve the issue after considering my guidance and drawing her conclusions.

Badtz-Maru’s Danger Drone (Season 2, Episode 6)

Badtz-Maru’s drone is causing havoc all through town: breaking through Chococat’s door, destroying Kuromi’s ice cream, and other incidents. He’s practicing for a flying contest but without much success. Chococat gives Badtz-Maru studying tips to implement alongside his flying practice. His flying test goes successfully thanks to this tactic.

What “Badtz-Maru’s Danger Drone” Teaches About Friendship

Listening to friends’ advice is often the best way to gain a fresh perspective on how to solve a problem or learn a new skill. Learning a new hobby involves reading and learning about it, and not just jumping into it without research. My children’s father taught me about Magic: The Gathering in 2017, when I expressed an interest in playing with him and his friends. He gave me tutorials as we played matches together, and I conducted my research to learn more about Magic: the Gathering. To this day, I still play the game one-on-one or at comic book store events.

Imperfection (Season 2, Episode 7)

Imperfection Episode - Hello Kitty

Keroppi is giving back a borrowed vase to My Melody so that she can give it to Cinnamoroll. His foot got stuck inside the vase, and Kuromi came to help him get out of it. The vase gets cracked in the shuffle. My Melody and Cinnamoroll come by for the vase, and she is shocked to find it broken. My Melody and Keroppi come to Hello Kitty for advice about the debacle. Hello Kitty suggests fixing the vase and painting gold on the cracks. This is a Japanese activity, known as kintsugi, where the addition of gold enhances the flaws of an object.

What “Imperfection” Teaches About Friendship

No one is perfect. Friends will not always have perfect days when interacting with one another or trying to do things for each other. Flaws are what make friends unique, as they can help each other out with them. My youngest toddlers are into the pushing and “mine, mine, mine” phase of their childhood. There are some days when they play together so well, but on other days, I hear them fighting every five minutes over one specific toy car out of over 50 in the house. Their imperfections in this phase are helping them to grow closer as brother and sister and secondly as good friends.

Hello Kitty’s Bow Chase (Season 2, Episode 10)

Oh no! Hello Kitty lost her favorite bow that her mother gave to her a long time ago because a bird took it off her head. She places red and orange flowers in the place of her bow until she and her friends find it inside the bird’s nest. Hello Kitty trades the flower for the bird to give her the bow back.

What “Hello Kitty’s Bow Chase” Teaches About Friendship

The best of friends help you in your time of dire need. Having empathy and understanding is essential for emotional intelligence to be a great friend. I encourage my eldest to always be on the lookout for her friends who are having a bad day or need help with something. I instill these lessons of kindness and empathy in my children early in their lives so they can become great friends to their community in the future. I am pleased to see that my daughter’s progress report indicates she is willing to help her fellow students during class.

Pie in the Sky (Season 2, Episode 8)

Hello Kitty is hosting a bake sale for a town fundraiser. Cinnamoroll makes deliveries while Badtz-Maru keeps track of their rising pie chart to track their fundraising goal. My Melody introduces more baked goods for sale. They sell almost everything, but they do not reach their fundraising goal. Hello Kitty is sad about this, but then the friend group optimistically looks at the bright side that they tried their best, and the town still benefits from the fundraisers.

What “Pie in the Sky” Teaches About Friendship

This episode of Hello Kitty & Friends: Supercute Adventures demonstrates to children that working together to achieve a shared goal is the most delightful aspect of friendship. Looking at the bright side of the journey is always better than focusing on what didn’t happen. For a one-day visitation, my children’s father and I had a plan to visit a flea market an hour away from my house and then a 50s-themed diner, another 20 minutes from the flea market. While we did not have time to visit the 50s-themed diner, we ate big slices of delicious pizza at one of the flea market’s restaurants instead.

Fly a Kite (Season 2, Episode 9)

Fly a Kite

Cinnamoroll hears that My Melody made a kite for the upcoming kite festival. He’s disappointed he doesn’t have a kite, but My Melody offers Cinnamoroll to be her co-pilot, which gets him excited. They both try to get the kite flying, but it’s too heavy from the extra dazzling gems My Melody placed in the middle of her flower kite. Cinnamoroll knows how to fly, so they deconstruct the kite for him to wear the middle of the flower on his head and turn the petals into wings on his back.

What “Fly a Kite” Teaches About Friendship

Arrangements don’t always pan out exactly as planned. However, there is always a solution to a problem by working with your resources. Using one another’s strengths and great ideas can make an event happen even better than you would have thought.

Kuromi’s Sleepover (Season 2, Episode 11)

My Melody and Hello Kitty attend a sleepover at Kuromi’s house. My Melody is embarrassed about bringing out her plushie because they may think she is too old for them. She has trouble sleeping and sneaks to her bag for the plushie when it’s bedtime. Hello Kitty turns the light on to ask her if everything is ok. In the end, it turns out everyone had their favorite plushies they sleep with.

What “Kuromi’s Sleepover” Teaches About Friendship

Don’t be afraid to be yourself around your friends. Making judgments about what they will think of you will create undue anxiety and stress. Be open with your comrades about who you are, and you never know if they will share similarities with you. FYI: I am 31 years old with 3 kids, and there are some Hello Kitty plushies sitting on my bed!

The Wiltening (Season 2, Episode 13)

Hello Kitty, Kuromi, and My Melody play a VR game. Kuromi is off doing her quest to find different pieces of a dark mage costume while Hello Kitty and My Melody fend off a dark fog. Kuromi jumps in at the last minute, using magical perks from her newly collected outfit pieces to save her two friends from falling into a ditch.

What “The Wiltening” Teaches About Friendship

In this episode of Hello Kitty & Friends: Supercute Adventures, children learn that friends should stick together when on a journey as a team, even if they have different milestones they want to reach. Going off separately could mean forces aren’t as strong as if you all stay banded together. I just took a trip to a local zoo with my daughter’s class as one of their chaperones. One of the other moms chaperoning asked if they could join my group, and I was so happy she suggested this! One of the seven children we watched were usually on the run, but we kept reminding them to stay with us as a group. This allowed us to see everything in the zoo safely while having fun.

Kuromi Takes the Plunge (Season 2, Episode 14)

Kuromi Takes the Plunge

Kuromi and the gang are having fun at a local waterpark. Everyone is talking about the tallest water slide in the park called “The Plunge”. Everyone believes Kuromi is super ready for it because she usually isn’t afraid of anything. What everyone doesn’t know is that she’s fearful of heights when thinking about this water slide. After a talk with Cinnamoroll, Kuromi gains enough confidence to go down “The Plunge” multiple times.

What “Kuromi Takes the Plunge” Teaches About Friendship

Talking with friends about your fears can help you feel more confident about facing them. Anyone can be scared of anything, even something you didn’t think they would be. I’m teaching my eldest daughter how to place orders when we visit restaurants. She’s a naturally talkative girl with her friends at school and in Girl Scouts, so I thought teaching her this would be a great public speaking opportunity for her. Some days, she tells the waiter or cashier what she wants with confidence. On other days, she is shy and needs my help. I always assure her that the order taker is there to help and to act like she is talking to a friend when she is doing this.

My Melody’s Friendship Ultra Blast! (Season 3, Episode 1)

My Melody's Friendship Ultra Blast

My Melody hosts a fun get-together at her home for International Friendship Day. She wants to be the perfect host, but she realizes she has to set certain boundaries with her friends as they are in her home. Such boundaries include using coasters for drinks and eating over a plate. Pompompurin’s messy eating triggers My Melody’s anxiety because she dislikes mess. She opens up to Badtz-Maru, asking him not to touch her ears without asking, and gives Pompompurin a plate for his messy tacos.

What “My Melody’s Friendship Ultra Blast!” Teaches About Friendship

Setting boundaries is a crucial aspect of maintaining a healthy friendship. Being assertive while showing kindness is the best way to address what’s bothering you about a friend’s actions. My kids love to climb on me while we are sitting on the couch watching television. Even my eldest daughter (age 7) sometimes tries to get cheeky. I firmly set boundaries with them by kindly reminding them they can sit next to me, but I am not a jungle gym.

My Melody’s Wish (Season 3, Episode 2)

My Melody's Wish

The Tanabata Festival is coming to town. My Melody is preparing to set up the bamboo tree for the festival, where they hang up their wishes on it, as per the tradition of this festive occasion. Badtz-Maru thought My Melody wanted ten 1-foot-tall bamboo trees, not a 10-foot one. Instead, they use a local maple tree to hang their wishes on. Hello Kitty tries to ensure My Melody is having a good time as the host. It turns out My Melody’s wish comes true with everyone having the best Tanabata Festival experience ever.

What “My Melody’s Wish” Teaches About Friendship

Friends can be awesome wish-granters. It’s not enough to wish for something. Someone has to take action for it to come true, just as My Melody believes. My oldest daughter wished we could get Lilo & Stitch merchandise for when we go see the new live-action movie next week. Even though I am usually on a budget, I made it happen for her by purchasing the headband, drink cup, and popcorn holder in advance, just in case the inventory ran out on the day we went to see the movie.

Hello Kitty’s Apple Pie Surprise (Season 3, Episode 5)

Hello Kitty's Apple Pie Surprise - Hello Kitty and Friends - Supercute Adventures

Did you know that Hello Kitty’s favorite food is her mother’s apple pie? This episode highlights how Hello Kitty creates a large version of her mama’s apple pie so she can hand out slices to everyone after the Apple Days Parade. With Pompompurin and Cinnamoroll’s help, they push a wagon with the large apple pie to the Town Square. They finally make it there, but then the apple pie flies up from the wagon and into the fountain after hitting a crack. Her friends still love the pie’s taste of what was left of it, and they offer to help her clean up.

What “Hello Kitty’s Apple Pie Surprise” Teaches About Friendship

Taking your time to reach a goal with friends will yield better dividends than rushing through. Even if mistakes are made, remaining optimistic and helping each other in the aftermath is better than getting upset. My children’s father and I played Elden Ring together before. I prefer to rush in and battle enemies head-on, while he takes a more defensive approach first and then goes on the offensive. Hence, he analyzes our opponent more so than I do during combat. There are times we have lost boss matches because I would die too many times. However, regrouping by discussing the combat strategy first has helped to achieve better outcomes.

The Hello Kitty franchise has been a friendship-teaching icon since it originated in 1974. I will continue showing my kids Hello Kitty: Supercute Adventures for many years to come, as there is so much to learn about the power of friendship, empathy, kindness, and helping others.
