Netflix has released a new teaser for Steps, an animated comedy that puts a surprising spin on the classic Cinderella story. Rather than focusing on Cinderella, the film follows her supposedly “evil” stepsisters, Lilith and Margot, as they attempt to escape Cinderella’s shadow.

In Steps, Lilith steals the Fairy Godmother’s magical wand and takes over the Royal Ball with Margot. Their plan goes badly, however, when Priscilla seizes the throne and threatens the kingdom, forcing the sisters to join Cinderella on an adventure to set things right.

The new teaser gives families a first look at the film’s colourful fantasy world, comedy and unusual take on a familiar fairy tale. As AWN describes it, Steps tells the story from the perspective of the “evil” siblings, offering a different version of a story many children already know.

Steps will arrive on Netflix worldwide on November 20, 2026. The movie could provide families with a new animated option just in time for the holiday movie season.

An All-Star Cast Behind the Animation

Steps is directed by Alyce Tzue and John Ripa, with Amy Poehler, Jane Hartwell and Kim Lessing among the producers. Ripa previously co-directed Disney’s Raya and the Last Dragon, while Tzue is a Student Academy Award gold medal winner.

The voice cast brings together a particularly recognizable group of performers. Ali Wong voices Lilith, Stephanie Hsu plays Margot, Amanda Seyfried is Cinderella and Nikki Glaser voices Priscilla, while Bette Midler plays the Fairy Godmother.

The supporting cast includes Daniel Radcliffe as the Prince, Peter Dinklage as Roderick, Young Mazino as Gef and WWE Superstar Damian Priest as Cracktor. The combination of comedy performers, dramatic actors and familiar family-entertainment names gives Steps a broad appeal.

Steps Highlights Netflix’s Growing Animation Investment

Steps is also notable because it represents an important milestone for Netflix Animation Studios. The movie is Netflix Animation Studios’ first feature produced entirely in-house, rather than relying on an outside animation studio.

Netflix has been expanding its animation lineup across children’s, family and adult programming. The company says more than 130 million members worldwide watch animated titles every month, while its anime programming generated more than 1.5 billion views in 2025.

The streamer is also building an increasingly broad 2026 animation slate, with Steps joined by films including In Waves and Ray Gunn. Netflix’s animation strategy demonstrates how the company is continuing to invest in animated stories across multiple audiences and styles.
