The Minions are heading back to the small screen. Minions & Monsters, the latest animated adventure from Illumination, is coming to Peacock after a summer theatrical run that brought the little yellow characters back to the box office.
Minions & Monsters will begin streaming on Peacock October 28, giving families a chance to watch the 90-minute animated adventure at home just ahead of Halloween. The movie is rated PG for violence and action, language, and rude and macabre humor.
The seventh film in the Despicable Me franchise and third standalone Minions movie takes the characters into 1920s Hollywood. The Minions become movie stars, lose their newfound fame and accidentally unleash monsters before having to save the world from the chaos they created.
Parents will also be able to turn the streaming arrival into a Minions marathon. Peacock is adding the original Minions and the first two Despicable Me movies alongside the new release.
How Did Minions & Monsters Do at the Box Office?
The movie arrived in theaters July 1 during an exceptionally crowded summer for family films. It ultimately earned $523 million worldwide, according to reporting cited by Variety, giving the latest Minions adventure a substantial theatrical run.
Its opening was less impressive by franchise standards, however. Minions & Monsters made $61.4 million over its first five days domestically, compared with approximately $123 million for Minions: The Rise of Gru in 2022 and $122 million for Despicable Me 4 in 2024.
Even with that softer start, the film benefited from strong international business and positive reviews. The movie holds a 90% critics’ score on Rotten Tomatoes, while audiences gave it an A- CinemaScore.
How Did the Minions Become So Popular?
The Minions first appeared in 2010’s Despicable Me as Gru’s eccentric yellow henchmen. Their popularity eventually led to the standalone Minions movie in 2015 and Minions: The Rise of Gru in 2022.
The original Minions became a global blockbuster, earning approximately $1.15 billion worldwide. The Rise of Gru followed with roughly $938 million globally, demonstrating that the characters could carry a movie without Gru at the center.
The franchise has now grown into one of animation’s biggest family properties, with the six previous Despicable Me and Minions movies collectively earning more than $5.6 billion worldwide. For parents, Minions & Monsters offers another chapter in a franchise that has been entertaining kids for more than 15 years.
