The Avatar: The Last Airbender universe is expanding with Avatar Kuruk: Wave of Chaos, a new animated series announced at New York Comic Con. Paramount+ also renewed Avatar: Seven Havens for Books 3 and 4, extending the adventures of its new Avatar.

The announcements bring exciting news for families who enjoy the franchise’s mix of fantasy, humor and adventure. While Wave of Chaos will explore an earlier period in Avatar history, Seven Havens will continue the story of sisters Pavi and Nisha.

A premiere date for Wave of Chaos has not yet been announced. Meanwhile, the first book of Seven Havens consists of 13 episodes, with the series streaming on Paramount+.

Kuruk’s Adventures: Story, Production and Release

Avatar Kuruk: Wave of Chaos follows a rebellious teenage Avatar who chooses to learn the four elements through globe-trotting adventures rather than following thousands of years of tradition. Alongside his pet companion Nikik, Kuruk faces an angry teacher, rowdy pirates and chaotic spirits while finding his own way to help the world.

Bryan Konietzko, co-creator of the original series, will serve as showrunner. The project is produced by Avatar Studios and Nickelodeon Animation Studios, bringing the franchise’s creative leadership back to a new adventure.

The story could appeal to younger viewers who enjoy action, fantasy creatures and characters learning to trust their instincts. However, parents will need to wait for more information about the series’ age rating, episode count and release date.

Where the New Shows Fit Into the Avatar Universe

The franchise began with Avatar: The Last Airbender, which premiered on Nickelodeon in 2005 and followed Aang’s quest to master the elements and restore balance. Its success led to The Legend of Korra, comics, novels, games and live-action adaptations.

Seven Havens moves the timeline forward, following Pavi after Korra, while Wave of Chaos looks backward to explore the life of Kuruk, an earlier Avatar. Together, the series offer new entry points into the franchise’s expansive mythology.

For parents, the growing universe means more fantasy adventures to explore with children, although each series may have different themes and intensity levels. Families can start with the original series or choose the storyline that best suits their children’s interests and viewing maturity.
