Disney+ is giving fans a festive new reason to revisit the Proud family with A Proud Family Wizmas, a stop-motion animated holiday special premiering November 14, 2026. The musical adventure brings Penny Proud and her family back for a Christmas story with a fresh visual style.
The special features a star-studded guest cast and six original songs. The publication describes the franchise as “one of the most relevant and influential families on TV,” highlighting its enduring place in children’s entertainment.
The special arrives following the fourth and final season of The Proud Family: Louder and Prouder. Families can stream the earlier series on Disney+ while waiting for Penny’s holiday adventure.
Penny Proud Must Save Christmas With Help From a Huge Cast
The story begins when Penny inadvertently ruins Christmas and must help make things right. After Santa Claus quits on Christmas Eve, Penny reluctantly takes over his gift-delivery duties, teaming up with mischievous elves to save the holiday for children in Emilyville and around the world.
Kyla Pratt returns as Penny, alongside familiar voices including Tommy Davidson as Oscar Proud, Paula Jai Parker as Trudy and JoMarie Payton as Suga Mama. New guest stars include Anderson .Paak as Mall Elf, Lil Rel Howery as Bubble, JB Smoove as Mall Santa and Gabrielle Union as Talia Rogue.
Creator Bruce W. Smith directs the special, with Ralph Farquhar writing and co-director David Brooks helping bring the production to life. Portland-based stop-motion studio HouseSpecial is also involved, while Kurt Farquhar returns to compose the music.
Why Is The Proud Family Switching to Stop-Motion?
Unlike the franchise’s familiar 2D animation, A Proud Family Wizmas uses stop-motion, a technique that creates movement by photographing physical models one frame at a time. The approach gives the holiday special a handcrafted look that distinguishes it from the regular series.
The new style also offers an opportunity to make the Christmas setting feel especially tactile, from characters and costumes to festive decorations. Disney has not publicly detailed a specific creative reason for choosing stop-motion, but the format provides a noticeable change for longtime viewers.
With six new songs, returning characters and a holiday rescue mission, the production offers families a fresh way to celebrate with the Prouds.
