A mischievous new group of magical characters is heading to the big screen! Bad Fairies, an upcoming animated musical comedy from Warner Bros. Pictures Animation and Locksmith Animation, is scheduled to arrive in U.S. theaters on May 21, 2027.

Set in contemporary London, the film follows a rebellious gang of fairies who challenge the rules of their magical world. The story promises a fresh, playful spin on traditional fairy tales, blending fantasy, comedy and original musical numbers.

According to Animation World Network, the film is already in production in London, with DNEG Animation serving as its digital animation partner. Families can look forward to a colorful fantasy adventure when the movie reaches theaters next year.

Kylie Minogue, Jonathan Groff and Catherine Tate Join the Cast

The voice cast recently expanded with three major names: pop superstar Kylie Minogue, Broadway and television star Jonathan Groff, and British comedian Catherine Tate. Their casting was announced by leading star Cynthia Erivo during her Hollywood Bowl concert in October 2026.

Minogue voices Clowder, the Cat Witch, while Groff plays Robin Goodfellow and Tate voices the Fairy Gothmother. They join Erivo as Jayne Staplegun, alongside Doctor Who star Ncuti Gatwa, comedian James Acaster, voice actor Dee Bradley Baker and Serrana Su-Ling Bliss.

Minogue described the opportunity as “a little bit magical, a little bit mischievous and a whole lot of fun.” The mix of musical performers, comedic talent and experienced voice actors gives the project a particularly impressive ensemble.

Behind the Scenes: The Creative Team Making the Movie

As the film’s production overview explains, Bad Fairies is directed by Megan Nicole Dong, creator of Netflix’s Centaurworld, with Olivier Staphylas serving as co-director. Deborah Frances-White wrote the screenplay, bringing the original story to life for the animated feature.

The musical team includes Tony Award-winning duo Toby Marlow and Lucy Moss, known for Six: The Musical, who are writing the original songs. Isabella “Machine” Summers of Florence + The Machine is composing the score and contributing to the music, while KPop Demon Hunters music producer Ian Eisendrath serves as executive music producer.

For families, the combination of fairy-tale fantasy, original songs and a rebellious group of characters could make Bad Fairies a distinctive addition to 2027’s animated-movie lineup. With its high-profile cast and experienced creative team, the film is one to keep on the radar for children and parents who enjoy musical adventures.
