Greg also opened up about the feeling of falling short as a parent.

“We’re brought up with the fables that all boys grow up to be fathers and all girls grow up to be mothers. And it took us a very long time to dig ourselves out of that hole,” he added.

The Military Wives star further noted the pain that he and his wife had over wanting to give their daughter a biological sibling. However, he added that the pair experienced “exquisite love” for Gaia.

He also admitted that his wife struggled to cope with the situation.

“It’s all about the woman, the process. It’s a brutal process and where I was in myself at the time, the savior figure, I couldn’t save them. There was nothing I could do,” the actor added.

“She was undertaking all of this. All I could do was to support and try and soothe her rather than myself,” he continued.

Notably, in 2004, five years after they welcomed their daughter, the pair informally adopted their son, Tindyebwa Agaba Wise. They reportedly met him at a refugee aid event in 2003.

Meanwhile, the couple met in 1995 while filming Sense and Sensibility and got married in 2003.
