One of the internet’s most unlikely animal celebrities is headed to bookstores. Dynamite Entertainment has announced plans to publish an official children’s book starring Punch the Monkey, the Japanese macaque whose antics and heartwarming story have captivated audiences around the world.

According to reporting from comics and pop culture site Bleeding Cool, the book is titled PUNCH: Are You My Friend? and is being developed as part of Dynamite’s expanding line of children’s publishing. The company has been actively growing its youth-focused imprint, which includes picture books, activity books, and graphic novels aimed at younger readers.

Nick Barrucci, CEO and owner of Dynamite Entertainment, tells Bleeding Cool “I’ve loved the story of Punch the Monkey since practically day one and am incredibly excited to bring this heartwarming tale to kids around the world. This book is so awesome about this adorable monkey that if we were not publishing it, I would be first in line to buy it!”

The book will feature Punch’s adventures as he searches for friendship and connection, drawing inspiration from the real-life monkey’s rise to fame. While Dynamite has not revealed every story detail, the project is being positioned as an all-ages release designed to introduce younger readers to the beloved primate’s world. The 16-page, lift-the-flap hardcover book is slated for wide release on September 29, 2026

Who Is Punch the Monkey?

Punch became a global sensation after videos and photos of the monkey spread across social media and international news outlets. The Japanese macaque won over audiences with his expressive personality, playful behavior, and surprisingly relatable interactions with both humans and other animals.

His popularity grew even further in 2026 when international media covered his efforts to make new friends at a Japanese wildlife facility. According to CNN’s reporting, Punch’s story resonated with viewers because it centered on themes of companionship, belonging, and social connection rather than simple viral antics.

Reader’s Digest described Punch as a phenomenon that transcended cultural boundaries, noting that people around the world became invested in his adventures and relationships. His combination of charm, curiosity, and resilience helped transform him from a local attraction into an international celebrity.

A Natural Fit for Children’s Publishing

Dynamite’s decision to adapt Punch into a children’s book reflects the qualities that made him famous in the first place. The monkey’s story offers lessons about friendship, kindness, and perseverance that are easily accessible to young readers.

In announcing its children’s publishing initiative, Dynamite Kids publisher Jon Rosenberg said, “We’re eager to open young minds to a world of possibilities through our original stories for young readers, junior graphic novels, novelty books, and activity books.”

Rosenberg also explained that the goal is to “get them excited about reading” while helping cultivate a lifelong love of books.

Coming Soon to Bookstores

PUNCH: Are You My Friend? is expected to arrive through Dynamite’s growing children’s publishing line, bringing one of the internet’s most beloved animal personalities to a new audience. For fans who have followed Punch’s adventures online, the book offers a chance to see the famous monkey’s story retold in a format designed specifically for young readers.

With a recognizable star, positive themes, and a publisher eager to expand its children’s offerings, Punch’s leap from viral sensation to storybook hero seems like a natural next chapter.
