'Hello Lilac - Good Morning, Yellow: Colors and First Words' Book Review

When I started homeschooling my oldest daughter when she was a preschooler, I started with lessons on colors. I followed the same lesson plans with my son, and I will do the same with my youngest daughter. To help teach the colors of the rainbow, I read many books about colors to my kiddos. When recently offered the chance to review Hello Lilac – Good Morning, Yellow: Colors and First Words written and illustrated by Judith Drews from Prestel Publishing in exchange for my honest opinion, I eagerly accepted the opportunity to add a new title to my home library.

Evaluation

My preschooler knows his colors pretty well, but I still read color books to him for review. I also read aloud to my toddler daughter to begin exposing her to color vocabulary. In fact, I recently used Hello Lilac – Good Morning, Yellow: Colors and First Words at a homeschool preschool co-op as one of the books that I read aloud to the children. My favorite part is the inclusion of some less common colors such as lilac and gold. My oldest daughter, who is 7 and finishing up second grade, loved when I got to the gold pages. She is a fan of playing princess and queen and loves all things that sparkle, so noble gold was right up her alley.

In addition to the color words, Hello Lilac – Good Morning, Yellow also introduces many other vocabulary words to little readers. Each two-page spread focuses on a color and objects that come in that color. For example, the pages featuring red include items such as a heart, beetle, rose, balloon, and raspberries. The lilac pages feature a monster, plum, berries, bubbles, and boot. All three of my kiddos enjoy looking at the pictures throughout the book. My oldest daughter loves reading aloud to her baby sister. My preschooler son also enjoys pointing out the things that he knows throughout the pages.
