The Home Depot Kids Workshop is a free, hands-on program designed to inspire creativity and teach practical skills to children aged 5–12 years old.

Held on the first Saturday of each month from 9 a.m. to 12 p.m. at participating Home Depot stores nationwide, these workshops offer kids the opportunity to build various projects while learning basic tool usage and safety.

As a father of four, I’m constantly getting my children involved in projects around the house. From building new shelves in our garage to planting new gardens around our yard, my kids know how to use various tools. The Home Depot Kids Workshop is a fun opportunity for them to build something for themselves while learning even more about construction.

I’ve included information about what your child can expect from the Home Depot Kids Workshop, some of the cool items they’ll get to take home with them, the 2025 workshop schedule, and details on how to register ahead of time.

What To Expect From A Home Depot Kids Workshop

Each workshop offers a new project, such as building a birdhouse, constructing a toy car, or creating a planter.

Children receive a workshop kit that includes all necessary materials and tools. Upon completion, participants earn a certificate of achievement, a commemorative pin, and a child-sized orange apron to take home.

The projects typically take about 30 minutes to complete, and while the recommended age range is 5–12, younger children can participate with parental assistance.

Each project is accompanied by a STEAM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts, and Math) extension activity developed in collaboration with Discovery Education, allowing children to continue learning at home.

How To Participate In A Home Depot Kids Workshop

While walk-ins are welcome, I recommend registering online in advance to ensure a kit is reserved for your child. Registration typically opens a month before each workshop and can be completed on the Home Depot Kids Workshop page. If you don’t reserve ahead of time, you’ll want to arrive early, as kits are distributed on a first-come, first-served basis.

Important Registration Note: Make sure you register for your local store on the registration page.

The Home Depot Kids Workshop is an excellent opportunity for families to engage in creative, educational activities together, fostering a love for building and learning in young minds.
