When Nikki Salazar learned she was pregnant with her first child, she expected to take some “cut” baby bump photos to show off her pregnancy. Instead, the 23-year-old first-time mom was shocked to see almost no changes to her belly, even as her pregnancy reached its final weeks.
Speaking to TODAY.com, the new mom said “It was so weird” to see her belly remain flat, even as her due date approached.
Nikki took to TikTok to share her experience and show off her monthly pregnancy progress. At the time of publishing, more than 1.2 million TikTok users have liked her post.
“My doctor said some people show later on,” she told Today, “I didn’t think it would be ‘never.’”
Nikki revealed that eight months in, she just looked “bloated” with no real signs of her healthy pregnancy.
The lack of a transformation would have worried the mom more if not for her baby’s healthy ultrasounds.
While some people may assume Nikki was happy to avoid a growing stomach, she says not going through that experience made her feel like she missed out on part of the pregnancy experience.
Nikki gave birth in July 2022. Her baby boy was 6 pounds and 13 ounces at birth.
Mom and baby both seem to be doing great, Nikki has continued to share her mothering journey on her TikTok page which now has over 20 million likes and 132,800 followers.
