After a blockbuster theatrical run, Toy Story 5 is finally heading to home screens. Disney and Pixar have announced that the fifth installment will begin streaming exclusively on Disney+ on September 23, 2026, exactly three months after its June 19 theatrical debut.
The film will also become part of Disney’s home-entertainment lineup, giving families another opportunity to revisit Woody, Buzz Lightyear, Jessie and the rest of Bonnie’s toys. For households with young children, that means the latest Pixar adventure can soon become a repeat-viewing favorite.
ScreenCrush notes that the film is “the biggest animated film of 2026 so far,” making its arrival on Disney+ one of the year’s major streaming events.
A $1 Billion-Plus Toy Story Adventure
Directed by longtime Pixar filmmaker Andrew Stanton, Toy Story 5 puts the familiar toys up against a decidedly modern threat: technology. Bonnie’s attention is increasingly captured by Lilypad, a tablet whose ideas about entertainment challenge the toys’ traditional role in her life.
The technology-versus-toys premise gives the sequel a timely hook, asking what happens when traditional play competes with screens. ScreenCrush describes the conflict as an “allegory for a Pixar movie about making films the (slightly) old fashioned way,” while also connecting it to society’s relationship with technology.
Audiences clearly wanted another trip to Andy’s old world of talking toys. Toy Story 5 has earned more than $1.13 billion worldwide, including approximately $478 million in the United States, making it a franchise-record theatrical success.
A Franchise That Changed Pixar—and Disney
The original Toy Story arrived in 1995 and became the film that introduced audiences to Pixar’s groundbreaking computer animation. Four sequels, numerous shorts, merchandise and theme-park attractions later, the characters remain among Disney’s most recognizable entertainment properties.
The franchise has also demonstrated that animated movies can appeal simultaneously to children discovering the characters for the first time and adults who grew up with them. Toy Story 5 continues that tradition by pairing familiar characters with a contemporary question about childhood and technology.
Now, Disney+ gives families another way to experience that legacy. With Toy Story 5 arriving September 23, the toys are once again moving from the big screen into living rooms—and potentially becoming part of a whole new generation’s childhood memories.
