Netflix is getting ready for a new kind of mobile viewing. With Apple’s newly announced foldable iPhone Duo, the streaming giant is redesigning its app to take advantage of the device’s much larger screen—and potentially give families another way to watch their favourite shows and movies.
Netflix is among the early partners working with Apple to adapt its app specifically for the iPhone Duo. The goal is to take advantage of the device’s folding design and give viewers a more immersive experience when the phone is opened into its larger screen.
The redesigned Netflix experience will allow users to browse clips on the smaller outer display before opening the phone for a larger-screen viewing experience. Netflix is essentially trying to make mobile streaming feel less like watching on a traditional smartphone and more like using a small entertainment screen.
That could be particularly interesting for families who already use phones and tablets for travel, waiting rooms or other situations where carrying a television isn’t practical. Netflix is clearly betting that the iPhone Duo’s unusual design can make mobile entertainment more engaging.
What Is the iPhone Duo?
Apple’s first foldable iPhone opens to reveal a 7.6-inch display, while its outer screen measures 5.4 inches. The device uses Apple’s A20 Pro chip, supports multitasking and Apple Pencil, and is designed to transition between different orientations and viewing positions.
The iPhone Duo starts at $1,999USD for 256GB, making it Apple’s most expensive iPhone yet. Higher-storage versions reach $3,199USD, while the phone is scheduled to become available October 23 following October 16 preorders.
For families, the larger screen may be the biggest attraction. Apple describes the Duo as a device that can provide a spacious entertainment experience while still folding down into a pocketable phone.
Are People Actually Watching TV on Phones?
Netflix’s investment in the Duo comes as Americans increasingly use multiple screens while watching television. A 2026 YouGov survey found that 76% of Americans use a cellphone or another device at least sometimes while watching a movie or TV show at home, including 12% who always do so.
The survey also found that 64% of Americans estimate they spend at least five hours a day looking at screens, suggesting that phones are already firmly embedded in people’s entertainment routines.
For parents, that doesn’t necessarily mean the television is disappearing. Instead, the rise of devices like the iPhone Duo could make screen time more flexible—but it also gives families another screen to consider when setting healthy technology boundaries.
