Fans of Pixar’s Toy Story 5 have a new way to continue the adventure with The New Adventures of Toy Story 5 Vol. 1, a graphic novel from Papercutz. The book is available in hardcover, paperback and digital editions.
The book contains 80 pages of stories and is aimed at readers ages 8 to 12, making it a natural choice for middle-grade Toy Story fans. Papercutz lists the paperback at $9.99, hardcover at $14.99 and digital edition at $5.99.
The release expands the Toy Story 5 experience beyond the movie theater, giving children another opportunity to spend time with familiar characters. It is also part of a continuing series of Toy Story 5 adventures.
New Stories Continue the Toy Story 5 Adventure
The first volume features four new stories starring Woody, Buzz, Jessie and the rest of the toys. Adventures include Woody rescuing tiny lost toys, Jessie and Buzz taking part in a sci-fi-inspired playtime and a game night hosted by Jessie and Lilypad.
The creative team includes writer Joshua Pruett, inker Gianfranco Florio, colorist Sara Galanti, designer Sergio Algozzino and letterers Chris Dickey and Charles Pritchett. The stories are designed to let the characters have adventures of their own while remaining connected to the world established by the film.
For kids who enjoyed Toy Story 5, the comic offers a particularly accessible way to keep the characters’ adventures going. The stories emphasize friendship, imagination and the toys helping one another when their plans go awry.
How Has Toy Story 5 Been Received?
The Toy Story 5 movie has received a generally favorable critical response, although reviewers have not universally agreed that it matches the emotional impact of earlier installments. Metacritic currently lists a 73 critic score, with 44 of 55 reviews positive, or 80% of the reviews shown as positive.
USA TODAY’s Brian Truitt gave the movie a 75 and praised its exploration of “tech, kids and friendship,” saying those themes feel fresh and relatable for both youngsters and parents.
Other reviews have been more divided, but the film’s focus on technology, play and friendship gives the new Papercutz comics a timely backdrop. For families looking for more Toy Story after the movie, The New Adventures of Toy Story 5 Vol. 1 offers four additional stories specifically geared toward young readers.
