Get ready for more blue adventures! The Smurfs is officially returning for a fourth season, with Peyo Productions revealing a first look at the upcoming animated episodes. The new season will feature 52 episodes, each 11 minutes long, bringing familiar characters back for another round of magical mishaps and comedy.
Papa Smurf, Smurfette, Jokey and Storm will take center stage, while the Smurfs face new challenges and the return of their longtime enemy, Gargamel. The first look also highlights the colourful Smurfies Village, which was introduced near the end of Season 3 and will play a bigger role in the new adventures.
The village will feature recurring characters Blossom, Storm and Willow, expanding the world of the little blue characters. Animation World Network reports that the new season is designed to build on the original comic-book characters while introducing fresh stories.
Who Is Returning and When Will Season 4 Premiere?
Director William Renaud is returning to lead the series, alongside head writers Peter Saisselin and Amy Serafin. The production also reunites Peyo Productions and French animation studio Ellipse Animation, with the teams behind the previous seasons back to create the new episodes.
Renaud says, “The Smurfs has always been a character-driven series, and with more than 100 Smurfs, we have plenty of stories to play with.” He also says the new episodes will continue exploring modern topics through comedy.
The season will arrive in two parts, with the first 26 episodes expected in late 2027 and the remaining episodes following in 2028. Nickelodeon will handle the U.S. premiere, while European broadcasters TF1, RTBF and Ketnet will also carry the new season.
Why The Smurfs Remain Popular With Families
The renewal for a fourth season reflects the continued international interest in the latest CG-animated version of the franchise. Its return also brings together a network of international broadcasting partners, including Nickelodeon and several European television networks.
The timing is especially meaningful: 2028 marks 70 years since the Smurfs first appeared and the 100th birthday of their creator, Belgian cartoonist Peyo. The second half of Season 4 will arrive during those celebrations.
For parents introducing younger children to the characters, the new episodes offer another opportunity to enjoy stories about friendship, humour and teamwork. BSCkids notes that the anniversary year will also include additional special content from Peyo Productions.
