A New York woman shared on TikTok that she was stunned when a letter arrived from the lawyer of a man she had dated for only six months, three years earlier.

The letter asked her to attend a hearing connected to his will. He had included her in it without telling her.

A Letter From a Lawyer Out of Nowhere

Noelle shared the news on TikTok. She said, “She had no idea whether her former boyfriend was still alive when the letter showed up.”

In the caption of her video, she joked that she didn’t know if he was dead or alive, but she was going to go and collect a check.

The post drew millions of views. Many people wanted to know why a man would remember someone he had dated for such a short time.

He Talked About Marriage Early on

In a follow-up video, Noelle posted screenshots of old text messages between them. They showed that he had brought up marriage more than once while they were together.

In one message, he told her he thought she should marry him soon and that she would benefit.

He also wrote that he wanted her to “feel secure”. He hoped she would never have to wonder whether things would work out and he wanted her life to be about “freedom rather than worry”.

In another text, he said he had no children and no former wife and he wondered who would one day receive everything he had built.

Noelle’s replies suggested that she appreciated his generosity but wanted to move the relationship along slowly.

What She Says She Could Have Inherited

In a later TikTok, Noelle said the man had died at 45. She also listed what she believed she might have inherited if they had married three years earlier.

His assets included more than four properties, boats, vintage watches, stocks, cash and a life insurance payout worth over $1 million, per her post.

She also mentioned a “Harry Winston engagement ring valued at $250,000”. These figures come from her account and haven’t been independently confirmed.

She did receive something from his estate, though. She wrote that he left her a “GENEROUS check” along with some valuable items.

She added that the story taught her, as she put it, that she was an idiot for not marrying him sooner.

How Viewers Responded

Viewers reacted in different ways. Some praised the man for his thoughtfulness, while others joked about how strange the situation was.

One commenter wrote that “it was sad to live in a world where such a kind gesture was treated as a joke”.

Another imagined that “the will might include all of his past girlfriends, setting off a battle royal over the inheritance”.

A third told her to “make sure he didn’t leave her anything haunted”. One person wrote that she was about to inherit some “debt queen”.
