My kids and I love spending the day out and about. Frequently I pack up a picnic lunch to eat at the park or zoo. One of my favorite styles of food containers is the bento box because the multiple compartments within the single container make keeping foods separate so much easier. A single container with multiple compartments also takes up less room than multiple larger containers. Thus, when recently offered the chance to review some Bynto and Hero containers from Goodbyn, I eagerly accepted the opportunity to add to my food container collection. I received two Byntos in blue and red and two Heros in pink and green.
Price
The Bynto container currently retails for $9.00 and the Hero for $13.00 from Goodbyn. Compared to other food containers that I have previously purchase, Goodbyn containers are a bit more expensive. However, these containers consist of FDA-approved #5 polypropylene that is BPA-free, phthalate-free, and 100% recyclable. These containers are also a bit thicker than other containers in my kitchen and are top-rack dishwasher-safe. The shapes of these two different containers are also significantly different. Therefore, although on the more expensive side, I do not consider the Bynto or Hero overpriced, so I rate the price positively.
Design
The containers and lids of all Goodbyn products consist of FDA-approved #5 polypropylene that is free from BPA and phthalates. These containers are built to last but are recyclable. Goodbyn products are not leak-proof, but the containers are top-rack dishwasher-safe, microwave-safe, and freezer-safe.
Bynto
The three-compartment design of the Bynto allows for easy lunch-making and even easier access to food at lunch time. The top compartment holds 17 fluid ounces, the middle 16 fluids ounces, and the bottom 9 fluid ounces. The middle compartment fits an eight-ounce drink bottle (sold separately). Bynto measures 10.72 by 6.83 by 2.74 inches.
Hero
The three-compartment design and two Goodbyn dippers of the Hero allow for ultimate flexibility and versatility. The large compartment holds 38 fluid ounces and the small 8.8 fluid ounces each. The medium dipper holds 2.6 fluid ounces and the large dipper 6 fluid ounces. The medium dipper fits inside the small compartments. Hero measures 10.72 by 6.83 by 2.74 inches.
Performance
My kids and I eat picnic lunches a lot, especially during the warmer months of the year. The Bynto and Hero from Goodbyn are my new go-to food containers for trips to the park or zoo. First, I love the generous sizes of these containers. I can pack enough food for my preschooler daughter, my toddler son, and myself in just one Bynto and one Hero. Being able to pack an entire lunch for three people in just two food containers saves tons of room in my bag, which is a major plus for a mom of two young children.
I received two Byntos and two Heros. I honestly cannot decide which is my favorite. I like to pack picnic food in one of each to take on day trips with my kids. The Bynto is perfect for fruits and veggies like orange slices and carrot sticks. I can put two small sandwiches along with a dip and a dessert in the Hero. The different-sized and shaped compartments make packing a full lunch for three super easy. I especially love the dip containers with lids that come with the Hero. My kids loves to dip, so I can bring a little ranch dip, hummus, or bean dip to go with our veggies or crackers. I definitely recommend getting one of each if you pack a lot of picnic lunches like I do.
In addition to the unique shapes and sizes of the Goodbyn food containers, I love that the Bynto and Hero are top-rack dishwasher safe. I personally hate washing dishes by hand, so I prefer dishwasher-safe containers whenever possible. While washing these containers by hand is easy, putting the lids and bottoms in the top rack of my dishwasher is even easier. I can even put the small dippers in the upper tray of my dishwasher. All the food residue washes off cleanly each time. I rate the Bynto and Hero extremely highly in terms of ease of washing.
While I have been making an effort to use more glass in my kitchen instead of place, I do like that the Goodbyn Bynto and Hero consist of FDA-approved #5 polypropylene that is BPA-free and phthalate-free. Glass containers are great for the kitchen and home but not so great for tossing into a backpack or diaper bag. I definitely prefer to use plastic containers when out and about. Goodbyn containers are very sturdy with plastic that is thicker than many of my other containers. The lids are not leak-proof but do fit on fairly securely. On a recent trip to a wildlife park, I tossed a Bynto and Hero in my bag, and both lids remained firmly in place.
Final Verdict
I have nothing but good things to say about the Bynto and Hero food containers from Goodbyn. The containers consist of FDA-approved #5 polypropylene that is BPA-free, phthalate-free, 100% recyclable, top-rack dishwasher-safe, microwave-safe, and freezer-safe. I love the generous sizes of these containers. The different-sized and shaped compartments make packing a full lunch for three super easy. The lids are not leak-proof but do fit on fairly securely.
While washing these containers by hand is easy, putting the lids and bottoms in the top rack of my dishwasher is even easier. If you are searching for new multiple-compartment food containers, I highly recommend the Bynto and Hero from Goodbyn.
