Design
Recommended for children age 2 and older, Old MacDonald’s Farm My First Sing-Along Puzzle from The Learning Journey features twelve chunky puzzle pieces and one sound module. Made from durable cardboard, the puzzle measures 24 inches by 18 inches. The beautifully illustrated puzzle of Old MacDonald on his farm features the lyrics to this favorite nursery rhyme. A simple touch of the button on the sound module plays the familiar tune.
Performance
Putting jigsaw puzzles together helps young children develop hand-eye coordination, fine motor skills, and problem solving skills. My four-year-old daughter has recently become extremely interested in doing puzzles, and my one-year-old son likes to do everything that his big sister does. She can manage puzzles with about a dozen pieces pretty well on her own now, and she feels a great sense of accomplishment when she finishes a puzzle by herself. She was extremely excited to put together her new Old MacDonald’s Farm My First Sing-Along Puzzle from The Learning Journey for the first time. I dumped out the pieces, and she set to work. She was able to put the entire puzzle together in a few minutes. She was quite proud of herself too!
The big, chunky pieces of the Old MacDonald’s Farm My First Sing-Along Puzzle make it a perfect educational toy for older toddlers and preschoolers. The pieces are easy for small hands to grab. My son is only 19 months old, but he can already pick up the pieces with ease. He enjoys “helping” his big sister with the pieces — much to her chagrin. My daughter also had an easy time picking up the pieces as she worked on the puzzle. For some reason, the larger pieces helped her figure out the puzzle more easily. She sometimes still has difficulty with small puzzles with the same number of pieces. The large pieces of this puzzle are definitely a plus!
Both my kids and I enjoy the bright and colorful picture of Old MacDonald on his farm. My son loves animals, and he kept saying “Ooh!” as he pointed to the different animals on the farm. He is also working on learning his animal noises, and he enjoyed mimicking the different animal sounds that I made for him as he pointed at each farm animal. My daughter also liked looking at the picture, both before and after she completed the puzzle. The bright and colorful pieces definitely help hold the attention of even the youngest children.
Finally, both my kids love the sound module that comes with the Old MacDonald’s Farm My First Sing-Along Puzzle from The Learning Journey. I must admit that I am not a fan of toys that make noise because I frankly am not a fan of noise. My kids, however, like most kids, are drawn to sound-producing toys. As soon as I showed my son that the button played a song, he took off with the sound module and repeatedly played “Old MacDonald Had a Farm” over and over and over again. My daughter also likes toys that make noise and play music, and Old MacDonald Had a Farm” is one of her favorite songs to sing. Both my kids really loves that this educational toy plays a song that they can sing along with while working on the puzzle.
Final Verdict
